Elaine Benton: May 2015
http://elainebenton.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 29, 2015. One automatically assumes that it is the patient who is in denial, but there are sometimes circumstances where the one in denial is the caregiver. Understandably so, after any diagnosis, life may never be the same again. It brings everything into question, and plans or dreams for the future have to be altered accordingly and in some cases shelved. Disappointment and frustration at a situation we cannot control can appear overwhelming. Posted by Parkinson's, shaken, not stirred.

Elaine Benton: December 2014
http://elainebenton.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 26, 2014. After having an interesting and thought provoking discussion with fellow sufferers, we were pretty much in agreement that many symptoms of the disease itself, are pretty much the same as the side effects of certain medications. The question was then raised as to how does one know, what symptoms are caused by the disease itself and which are a result of side effects from the medications? In The Huffington Post. Elaine Benton: August 2015

Friday, August 28, 2015. A very common phrase, that literally rolls off the tongue “get well soon”, meant with sincerity, but in certain circumstances is inappropriate, particularly when a person isn’t going to make a recovery. Have you ever felt awkward unable to think of what to say? Making a good impression and leaving one's mark is something we all aspire to. However there are times when it's best not to leave a mark. Take a read of my article in The Huffington Post. Friday, August 21, 2015. Really p...

Elaine Benton: January 2015

Friday, January 30, 2015. A recipe for disaster. There are certain things that just don’t go together, such as a shaky Parkinson’s patient and a large pot of scalding jam! This is a recipe for disaster, just waiting to happen. It took me forever to wash and tediously cut up the fruit, which should have made me. We are all so much wiser with hindsight. I ended up making a dreadful mess and it took forever to clean up. There seemed to be sticky jam on every surface including yours truly! As anyone sufferin...

Elaine Benton: This is Your Life
http://elainebenton.blogspot.com/2015/08/this-is-your-life.html
Friday, August 7, 2015. This is Your Life. Do you ever feel that everyone around you is experiencing problems of one kind or another? I recently wrote to someone that life is full of ups and downs, and anyone who doesn’t experience this, isn’t really embracing life. If we didn’t have any “downs”, how would we be able to recognise and appreciate the “ups”? Now here's a guy who has a great sense of humour and won't give in. Take a look at this short amusing video. 8221; in The Huffington Post. Keeping up w...

Friday, September 26, 2014. Pain Management of Parkinson’s. Whoever said you don’t have pain with Parkinson’s either was seriously misguided in concealing the truth for the assumed benefit of the patient or simply doesn’t understand Parkinson’s in depth and is ill informed. Serious pain interferes without doubt in every aspect; one’s daily activities, mood, naturally sleep, for who can sleep with throbbing pain throughout one’s body? What has this got to do with Parkinson’s I hear you say? Posted by Park...

Friday, March 27, 2015. Home Treatment For Gaucher Disease. There is nothing more exhausting than a hospital visit as an out-patient, which I’m sure my friend, and in fact anyone relying on constant hospital treatment or medication will attest. Ever wondered why people stop phoning, dropping by for a visit. How ill health affects one's social life prompted my article this week in The Huffington Post: " Was it something I said. Friday, October 31, 2014. UCLA News on Gaucher and Parkinson’s. Did you ever have a day full of a series of unfortunate events making you wonder if you got out of the wrong side of bed in the morning? One positive thought in the morning, can literally change your day. If you think positive, positive things will happen. It’s the same as smiling at someone, they will inevitably smile back at you. Unfortunately yawning, is just as contagious, but nowhere near as attractive as a smile! Often advice comes fro...
