Building a schionning arrow 1200 catamaran. By accident I found the website of electric propulsion specialist greenstar marine of Sweden. They offer a system that seems ideal for our catamaran. And what if we want to motor away from calm areas. How can we extend our range? The only alternative is Lithium Ion batteries which are able to provide up to 3 C of current. Theoretically a battery of 100 Ah would be enough but for how long? Winston 300 Ah LiFeYPo4 cell. Charge the battery within 2 hours. Let me d...

Floating Islands: April 2014
http://blog.floatingislands.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Friday, April 18, 2014. We took the model into bigger waves. These were at least 15 inches which is like 15 feet. For the Caribbean this is storm or hurricane waves. We forgot to put sand in so it is riding higher than optimal. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links to my related stuff. My 2009 seasteading talk video. My Seasteading Wiki Page.

Floating Islands: June 2015

Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Friday, June 5, 2015. If you wanted to leave the main boat 12 miles out, you would like a fast boat to get to shore. If the main boat is solar it would be nice if the fast boat was electric. This quadrofoil. Might be good for that. It is electric and can go 100 km on a charge. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links to my related stuff.

Floating Islands: October 2013

Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Tuesday, October 22, 2013. I made another hook paravane where the aluminum extends forward under the foam. This lets me attach the string forward more. Some videos. The Sun was going down at my wave tank. Thursday, October 17, 2013. I read about a hook paravane. This was the shape after some more bending and it worked well. I seems like othe...

Floating Islands: March 2014

Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Thursday, March 13, 2014. Found a 16 inch styrofoam ball on Amazon. We put the ball in a trash bag on top of some cement in a short bucket to make a mold. We were not that happy with the mold. Putting the ball on a bucket and using a hot wire we cut off 6 sections, leaving a cube. What is left is kind of like a big die. Took a bunch of sand ...

Floating Islands: Quadmaran Train With 3 Models
http://blog.floatingislands.com/2014/11/quadmaran-train-with-3-models.html
Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Saturday, November 29, 2014. Quadmaran Train With 3 Models. I tested 3 models in train formation with a better joint between them. The first with 3 floats rolls much more so I like the quadmaran design better. I would like to point out that all natural waves are used in my wave tank. This keeps costs down. Pretty sure my wave tank ha...Blow ...

Floating Islands: February 2015
http://blog.floatingislands.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Why I want to develop the Quadmaran design. It has very stable motion while still being able to move reasonably well. For the size it is light weight. The cost of a boat grows with the weight so a very stable boat with enough room that is still light weight is very nice. Plenty of room for solar panels. Crowdfun...

Our mission is to develop a solar powered ocean platform suitable for a single family to live on and so stable it is more like a floating island than a typical boat. Thursday, January 30, 2014. There is a hybrid boat that seems interesting. Using diesel and solar/electric. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links to my related stuff. My 2009 seasteading talk video. My Seasteading Wiki Page.
