Art Moments: March 2012

http://elementaryartmoments.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Sharing tips, lessons and techniques for elementary art teachers. Sunday, March 11, 2012. 4th Grade 3D Snowflakes. There are quite a few tutorials on YouTube that show how to make these. Search "How to make a 3D Snowflake" and you'll find lots of them. I was surprised looking through a few of them; people tape. The first fold in each flake? I use a dab of Tacky Glue instead. You can see the tape, but not the glue. And with NO pictures. Yikes! Yup, it was like that. :). Posted by Kathleen O'Malley. At its...

Sharing tips, lessons and techniques for elementary art teachers. Saturday, February 2, 2013. 3rd grade and jungles seem to be a natural fit and my students have always loved this lesson. As the jungles extend out of the center square students switch to a different tone of the same color to finish the border. Students are introduced to the artist Henri Rousseau. It was a trip to a museum that inspired this lesson a good 15 years ago. Posted by Kathleen O'Malley. Labels: Square 1 Art Ideas. The Art of Ed.

Sharing tips, lessons and techniques for elementary art teachers. Saturday, December 29, 2012. 5th Grade Clay Storytellers. I started my 5th graders working with clay very early in the school year. The lesson was learning about and creating Clay Storyteller figures. The 5th grade class curriculum covers American History and I was trying to pace the lesson with the classroom lessons on Native American Cultures. We did have all clay work made by the time the classroom started their. View my complete profile.

Sharing tips, lessons and techniques for elementary art teachers. Sunday, October 30, 2011. I love my rubber mallet! I don't need it often, but it sure does the trick when I want to hang artwork on the cinderblock walls at school. You need to remember to move your head to the side when you whack the mallet, there is a spring back action to it and you don't want your nose in line with it -ouch! Posted by Kathleen O'Malley. Hit the bullseye of the art education target. Newer posts →. August 1, 2011. The start of school is knocking at my door. This year is full of wonder. My classes for sixth grade are a steady twenty-eight so I have to make sure that there are enough seats. My seventh and eighth grade classes are around half the size. And I will travel to a different elementary school to teach kindergarten through fifth grade. I’m not sure what to expect. Classroom Management" "NEA Academy" "Classroom Procedures". Students ...

Hit the bullseye of the art education target. Road to a Tough Decision Part Three…. Road to a tough decision continued…. November 6, 2013. I returned to my third year in the same school district and fourth year teaching with a missus attached to a new last name and a secret. Life changes were coming to me in threes. I finished out the rest of the school year and signed my contract for the following year at seventy percent with a heavy heart. Marriage, new baby, and change in employment status placed ...

I continued to be the adviser for dance team and yearbook. Both jobs had me at school until after supper at night and into school before breakfast. Originally Handcrafted by O'Rourke Hancock. Thursday, August 29, 2013. More 30 Day Art is Life. The challenge was to draw a flower and I chose a daisy that my daughter had picked for me. I like the folds that denim makes so I drew my son's jean jacket. I couldn't think of something cool for this challenge so I just drew what I had in the kitchen. The challenge was to draw fabric and I just drew my son's blanket since it fold like fabric. Labels: 30 Day Challenge. Art is Life 30 Day Challenge. I couldn't ...

Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Games in the art room. We somehow ended up with a mindware catalogue in our home before Christmas. This was dangerous for a number of reasons. It got me wondering what kinds of games and toys other art teachers use in their rooms. The following are some staples in my classroom for days when they earn a "free art day" as part of their PBIS reward. 1- Etch a Sketch. 4 Shape by Shape. 5 Square by Square. 6 Tables and Chairs. Which games do you use in your art classroom? The book ...

Wednesday, March 9, 2011. This project was a favorite among my 5th graders this year. All of their pieces turned out great and students were able to learn and practice new clay skills. After the projects were bisqued, the students were then able to glaze their projects. They looked amazing when they came out of the last firing. This is a project I will keep for next year for sure. This one lost his eye in the bisque firing. I glued it on later, after it was glazed. Posted by Andrea Stevenson. 5 Cut paper...

Friday, September 20, 2013. Kindergarten had a few details to finish on their lion for the Art To Remember fundraiser, so I wanted an activity that was short, sweet and to the point, so I thought LINES! First we drew a vertical straight line. Then a vertical curvy line. Now we moved on to horizontal lines, first a zig zag. Then a horizontal loopy loop. Finished drawing before we paint. Painting begins. First time using watercolors, so I quickly explain how to use the water, to paint to paper. We discusse...
