Birds, bones, and fishes: What stands on top of a hill and is full of birds, bones and fishes?

http://www.eliseatthemuseum.blogspot.com/2015/02/what-stands-on-top-of-hill-and-is-full.html

Birds, bones, and fishes. Tuesday, 10 February 2015. What stands on top of a hill and is full of birds, bones and fishes? Probably all of you have been here once or more, particularly during the holidays. It's the Auckland War Memorial Museum, and I am lucky enough to work here now! Elise van de Ven. 10 February 2015 at 18:03. 9 March 2015 at 17:44. Elise van de Ven. 10 March 2015 at 10:24. If you see them again, could you try and count them, or take a picture if they are in a flock? Elise van de Ven.

Birds, bones, and fishes: February 2015

http://www.eliseatthemuseum.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Birds, bones, and fishes. Thursday, 19 February 2015. Can you tell from the picture how large it is? The Japanese mantis shrimp is an invasive species, which means it doesn’t belong in NZ, and has a negative effect on the environment. It probably arrived here on a fishing vessel. Sam donated his catch to the museum, and now it has become part of the marine collection. Fun fact: in Japan they eat hem as sushi. Elise van de Ven. Tuesday, 10 February 2015. Elise van de Ven. Birds, bones, and fishes

http://www.eliseatthemuseum.blogspot.com/2015/03/my-wildlife-adventure-standing-on-cliff.html

Birds, bones, and fishes. Tuesday, 17 March 2015. On our way to the viewing hide, we almost stumbled over a young male sea lion, fast asleep in the tussock. These are enormous creatures; the adult male reaching up to 3 metres in length, and weighing up to 400 kg. Although it was beautiful and exciting to see a sea lion for the first time, you probably understand why I didn't want to get too close. This tour was very ably guided by a young marine scientist, who had just finished her masters degree at Otag...

Birds, bones, and fishes. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Last week I spend two days at Pourewa Reserve and Kepa Bush, where the great Bioblitz was carried out. Many scientist and members of the public were invited to help find and count every species to be found in this area. Pourewa reserve has recently been returned to the local tribe, Ngāti Whātua, and they would like to restore the Maui (life force) of the land. If you would like to hear some of his stories go to:. Super Science at Wanaka Primary: Tracking Tunnels

http://wanakascience.blogspot.com/2015/04/tracking-tunnels.html

Super Science at Wanaka Primary. Sunday, April 19, 2015. I have been working up at Macraes Field Base recently - last week we had A LOT of snow and got snowed in! Luckily the snow cleared away by Thursday and I was able to get out and do my work. I was working on checking the tracking tunnels in the reserve predator-proof enclosures. We use the tracking tunnels to make sure there are no animals we don't want in the enclosures e.g. rats, mice, stoats etc - predators. While I was checking the tunnels I saw...

Super Science at Wanaka Primary. Sunday, March 29, 2015. I do some of my field work up in the Mokomoko Dryland Sanctuary, near Alexandra. This is a small predator fenced area. Several grand and Otago skinks were released into this area and some of my work is searching for them to see if they are still there! When we find a skink we have to try to get some photos of them - which is easier said than done! Ideally we would get a side-on photo of each side of the skink. Is it A, B or C? How about this one?

Super Science at Wanaka Primary. Sunday, May 3, 2015. It's National Science Week this week and the theme is Light! This theme was chosen because it is the International Year of Light. Who knows what our main source of light is? Is it something else? Light comes in many different forms - there is white light - which is the visible light we can see, but there are also other types of light - one of these is UV light. UV is the light that causes sunburn but you can't see the it. Have a look at this video:.
