And sometimes other places. Saturday, June 27, 2015. Contrasts and Summer Reading. I'm neglecting this blog in favor of another one. Which I'm not posting on either. The impetus to blog waning in favor of instagram which is so immediate and fun. I'm biffwix. For anyone who's interested. But in New York news. the first proper beach outing of the year to Robert Moses on the south shore of Long Island. Rather a contrast to the city. Overcast day, chilly water - blissful space. Times Square not so wonderful.

Tuesday morning about 9am. we enter the park near the natural history museum. Admire the rustic fence. And the little mist of wild michaelmas daisies. My heavens, the trees! Almost too much like Samuel Palmer in spring at Shoreham. How they glitter in the sun. How the pond makes a mirror image of itself. If I were a painter. We chat to the young woman whose very old dog sits daily.

A marvelously inexpensive outing - $1.75 old person's subway fare with bus transfer. Free Staten Island ferry with wonderful views of Lower Manhattan and splendid cooling breeze. And sometimes other places. Monday, July 6, 2015. The local diner has all sorts of suitable stuff on the windows. Eagle rather fierce and fireworks. Lady Liberty looking rather grim. A nice flower arrangements and reflection on 9th Avenue. The fireworks were on the East River this year so only a rather distant elegant view from the roof. As always, it was delicious! We took a taxi to Waterloo Station and caught the train to Southampton. Got our first sight of the Golden Princess! This was the largest Princess ship that we've ever sailed on. What a special ship this was! This is Diane. She made all the arrangements for the Cruise Critics get-togethers.

Madison Square Park is bright and chilly. But Eric Kayser serves hot tea and gives you a little tiny financier in your saucer. Another day I repair to the flower district. And bathe in bright ranunculus. And weird begonias with swirls in them. And my very favorites - hellebores more charmingly referred to as Lenten Roses.
