An Unexpected Adventure

The only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Sunday, March 31, 2013. BYU students get to play the carillon bells in West Jerusalem every Sunday! I got to go today, and it was SO neat! It's like the bell tower at BYU! Michelle and I played a lullaby on those giant bells, and 30,000 people around Jerusalem heard us :) It was super fun. I took a video of the actual event, so I'll post that someday too :). The view from the top of the tower was so amazing! They had progra...

I LOVED talking to everyone that was there! Tiff and Mike and Steve and Mindy and all my neicews were there, along with Mom and Dad! I love my family so so much! I am SO blessed to have such incredible people in my life! They put sticky notes everywhere with hearts and 21 things they loved about me! It was the cutest surprise EVER! While we w...

http://www.elizabethvdg.blogspot.com/2013/03/turkey-day-2.html

The only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Our first day of field-tripping in Turkey! While walking to our first site, I discovered and saw. I absolutely love beautiful doors. There are cats EVERYWHERE. Literally, you can see dozens wherever you go. We aren't supposed to pet them, because they all have fleas and mites and ticks. But they're so precious :). The best university in Turkey! I wonder if kids wear those clothes on a regular basis?

An Unexpected Adventure: Turkey day 6

http://www.elizabethvdg.blogspot.com/2013/03/turkey-day-6.html

The only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Friday, March 29, 2013. Archaeologist have uncovered the remains of a large temple of Artemis. Construction began on this temple in 300 BC, but expansion and renovations continued for many centuries. This temple was the fourth largest Ionic temple in the world and one of the seven largest of all Greek temples. Walking up to the city of Sardis! It was raining really hard that day, and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! This open a...

The only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Saturday, March 30, 2013. The day we got back from Turkey, we went to see the Israel Philharmonic! It was triply exciting because Pinchas Zukerman was going to be soloing and conducting! I LOVE this man! He is so stinking good at violin! I have listened to a bunch of his recordings and I love his style and interpretations. Oh wow, I was so excited! Serenade in E minor for strings by Edward Elgar. Here is Mr. Zukerman an...

An Unexpected Adventure: My roommates... :)

http://www.elizabethvdg.blogspot.com/2013/03/my-roommates.html

The only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Monday, March 25, 2013. My roommates. :). Sowe had 6 finals in one week, including 7 or so class periods and a GIANT analysis paper. That week was miserable. So Sara and I decided we weren't going to study for our Palestine test and we watched Finding Nemo instead, complete with goldfishy crackers :). This is a picture with my amazing Old Testament teacher, Brother Schade! Lindee and her beautiful face. Ha ha ha ha :).

Wish You Were Here: August 2013

http://wawntawnabroad.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Wish You Were Here. Sunday, August 11, 2013. Last Week of Christ's Life, Day 2. Words cannot describe my love for this place and the feelings I had going through Christ's last week with all my Jerusalem classmates. First thing in the morning we walked through Orson Hyde Gardens, here is my bud Lisa Judd. She is one of the smartest little girl I've ever met! I think it's pretty neat Orson Hyde has a garden dedicated to him. The true church still has its' remains here in the Holy Land! Forget me not :).

Wish You Were Here. Sunday, March 31, 2013. He is not here, for He is Risen! Among the hundreds of Christian Pilgrims from around the world in celebration of Christ's triumphant entry. Shakas! Passing through Lion's Gate! We partied with other pilgrims on the other side at the Pools of Bethesda. I loved seeing so many different people coming together to celebrate Jesus Christ, our true king. Syriac Orthodox Church of St. Mark. In the Armenian Quarter of the Old City). Wish You Were Here: The Dead Sea

http://wawntawnabroad.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-dead-sea.html

Wish You Were Here. Thursday, July 18, 2013. Where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found! Located below the cliffs of the Judean wilderness near the Dead Sea. The Essenes were a faction of Judaism who practiced monasticism here, and produced the Dead Sea Scrolls. Some of my favorites :). Who knew a desert could be so beautiful? Seeing the vast amazing desert made me realize that beauty really does come in all sorts of packages. Now the Dead Sea. The salinity of the Dead Sea is 33%. Random, but too good). The D...

http://wawntawnabroad.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Wish You Were Here. Thursday, February 28, 2013. Anne, Taylor and I, loving life. Reminded me a bit of the Old City in Jerusalem, but parts of it felt like an antique garage sale. We could have spent a long time shopping around there. but the beach was calling. Indiana Jones shops like this were all along the street. I love these cute juice shops. Now here is the real shop. the surf shop. The water felt so serene, I was literally as happy as a kid in a candy store. Motivational graffiti, the best kind.

Wish You Were Here: April 2013

http://wawntawnabroad.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Wish You Were Here. Saturday, April 13, 2013. Galilee, Sweet Galilee. Church of Nazareth/Basilica of the Annunciation. This church commemorates and is believed to be the location where the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, telling her she would become the mother of the Son of God (Luke 1:26-38). Around the entire church and top floor were incredible mosaics from countries around the world, all about the birth of our Savior. This church is also the largest Catholic church building in all the Middle East.

Wish You Were Here. Thursday, July 25, 2013. Last Week of Christ's Life" Field Trip Day 1. I had THE BEST time I've ever had here in Jerusalem this week, I didn't want it to end! What a bitter-sweet week knowing we had to leave soon. but it was so special visiting the sacred sites that made such an impression for our life today. For our last field trip we went through the sites Christ did during His last week in Jerusalem before He was crucified. Where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Later it became ...

Wish You Were Here. Thursday, January 24, 2013. Side Note. Bits of Jerusalem I Love. Check out this view! The valley below the Old city is the Kidron Valley; it must have been nice that the Old City of Jerusalem had a pretty natural defense system because of the surrounding valleys- their only vulnerable side was then north (Just in case you wanted to know). Just looking at the city you can see where momentous event occurred. There is so much history here! Plus, look how colorful it is. That boot my frie...
