One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Sunday, July 29, 2012. The Quest for Perfection. As I slog through my manuscript accepting all the editorial changes my agent requested, trying to figure out how to reword passages, clarify particular points, etc., I'll admit, I'm experiencing a certain level of frustration. Thursday, July 26, 2012. The Return of the Manuscript. It only took four months, but at long last, my manuscript,. I know it wasn't per...

One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Monday, September 24, 2012. My True Ghost Story. Among other things, my story, The Gangster’s Gold. Has to do with ghosts. A ghost that needs help. If you go on television right now, you can view a plethora of ghostly related programs: Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, Paranormal Witness, Celebrity Ghost Stories, etc. Why do people love stories about ghosts? Is it because we like to be scared? When I was youn...

One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. It only took a year. About a year ago, I received my manuscript, "The Legend of the Gangster's Gold" back from my agent. Yes, one year ago! So, on March 16, I put together my synopsis, my character summary and my manuscript, zippped them all together and sent them off. I know it will be awhile before my agent gets to it but that's okay. Just as long as the ball is out of my c...Miss ...

In the Labyrinth: A Change in Pace
http://ellenhreed.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-change-in-pace.html
One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Tuesday, January 15, 2013. A Change in Pace. National Novel Writing Month has come and gone, the holidays are over, and oddly, the world did not. End on December twenty-first. Most significantly, all the Christmas cookies are finally gone, so, I decided it was time to return to reality. Unlike procedurals, the investigator is not a cop, but some regular person who has some stake in figuring out the murder.

One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Where do the stories come from? Wow, it’s been way too long since I last wrote here! But building a retirement home out of state and the early arrival of twin grandbabies seem to have sucked up all my time and all my brains! But, I keep writing. Someone asked me where I get ideas for my stories. I think that’s a very good question. One with no definitive answer. So, off I went.

One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Writing the Novel was the Easy Part! Last week, my “Gangster’s Gold” manuscript came back from my agent and I’m happy to report, it’s ready to roll! Well, it’s. Ready to roll, but all my ducks aren’t quite all lined up yet. When I decided to write this book, no one ever told me that writing the book was going to be the easy part! I hadn't counted on The List. Next, she wanted a ta...

One woman's winding path as she navigates the uncertain world of writing and seeking publication. Friday, February 25, 2011. To Prologue or not to prologue.that is the question. This makes me unhappy. I like my prologue! In some ways, it's my favorite part of the whole story! I really don't like. I shall attempt to insert the scene later in the story but in such a way that the MC either doesn't see anything too crucial to later events or doesn't understand what she's seen.
