Ellen Lippe

Fredag 19. juni 2009. NDC 2009: Full day tutorial with Scott Bellware - good tests, better code. So far, most of what I've learned about TDD comes from Roy Osherove, so it's really quite interesting learning the same thing from a different perspective. Scott Bellware has his background more from the Ruby world and emphasize more on context specification. So there seems to be some differences in the way they think about TDD. Some disagreements/different ways of thinking (as seen from my perspective):.

Ellen Lippe: NDC 2009: Jeremy D. Miller - Convention over Configuration applied to .Net

http://ellenlippe.blogspot.com/2009/06/ndc-2009-jeremy-d-miller-convention.html

Torsdag 18. juni 2009. NDC 2009: Jeremy D. Miller - Convention over Configuration applied to .Net. Trying to step outside my comfort zone and learn something different, as demanded by Robert C. Martin in his key note yesterday. Convention over Configuration - new to me: Wiki def. So I get an overview of what this is all about, while I easy get lost when getting into the details. Anyway, a few keywords from this session:. MVC - web development. Controllers should not have any knowledge of the view itself.

Ellen Lippe: NDC 2009: Roy Osherove - Mocking on the edge, isolation at the system level

http://ellenlippe.blogspot.com/2009/06/ndc-2009-roy-osherove-mocking-on-edge.html

Torsdag 18. juni 2009. NDC 2009: Roy Osherove - Mocking on the edge, isolation at the system level. Level 400, maybe a little bit 'over the head', for many, when Roy Osherove asks at the end (just before getting the guitar and singing his TDD-song), "Did anyone get all I just said", the audience just laughed quietly. Tools for doing this: TypeMock Open AOP, CThru (open source). Create Aspects of classes to define default behaviour for various methods in that class. Add the aspects to the CThruEngine.

Ellen Lippe: NDC 2009: Carl Franklin - .Net memory management

http://ellenlippe.blogspot.com/2009/06/ndc-2009-carl-franklin-net-memory.html

Onsdag 17. juni 2009. NDC 2009: Carl Franklin - .Net memory management. A tough session at the end of the day. About how to control the garbage collector and how to measure memory usage. Most important message seemed to be: Never use the finalizer, implement IDisposable and call Dispose on objects instead. Ok knowledge to have in mind when coding, but not too exciting. Downoad the slides from http:/ libra.franklins.net/memorymanagement.zip. Legg inn en kommentar. Abonner på: Legg inn kommentarer (Atom).

Ellen Lippe: NDC 2009: Jimmy Nilsson - Is Domain-Driven Design more than entities and repositories

http://ellenlippe.blogspot.com/2009/06/ndc-2009-jimmy-nilsson-is-domain-driven.html

Torsdag 18. juni 2009. NDC 2009: Jimmy Nilsson - Is Domain-Driven Design more than entities and repositories. A nice reminder of the benefits of DDD to keep the motivation up. Some benefits of DDD:. Decrease accidental complexity, i.e the complexity we create ourselves by accident. (As opposed to the complexity of the business that we're paid to model). Programming is about understanding. Context is king, i.e all solutions do not suit all purposes. Main focus of DDD:. Forget about distractions (db.).

Ellen Little

Ellen Little is a San Francisco based artist working mostly in large format watercolors. Her work draws from nature to explore the interconnectedness of life where birth, aging and death are intertwined and nothing remains constant. Her recent paintings investigate the intersection of the natural and manufactured world. They are composed from natural things she finds in urban environments such as dead birds, bugs, flowers, weeds and trees.
