And We Will Form A Family Band. An autobiographical, but hopefully not emo, series of discussions of music, literature, activism, and other stuff. Saturday, December 23, 2006. Upon John and Dave's return, they will find that little has changed. There's still a little homoeroticism bubbling under the surface:. Mysteries of the Orient: March 2007

But now he is teaching in China. He wore T-shirt in Winter. He is our dear teacher. I will miss him if he goes back to Atlanta. A few letters of apology:. With many apologies,. With many apologies,. George W. Bush. And a thank-you letter:. Dear Mr. George,. A young lady from a poor country. Sunday, March 18, 2007.

Mysteries of the Orient: April 2007

Sunday, April 22, 2007. Did You Know I'm Korean? Party People All Around. Mama, tamen shi shenme ren? Mom, where are those people from? Haven't been up to much lately, just a few birthday parties and end-of-week parties. A few weeks ago our recently arrived French teacher had a birthday, and we went to the night market for dinner before Allyssa and I split off for the club. This is one of two in Weihai, and by far the better one. Check out the videos below. Nadeige's birthday cake and butcher knife:.

Mysteries of the Orient: January 2007

http://neallyweally.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 18, 2007. I must say, this was the first real time I have been completely frustrated with being in China. All the little things that get on my nerves, like ineptitude, arbitrariness, stupid rules, hierarchies, and problems arising from a simple lack of communication, came together for one horrific experience. Little did I know my next breakdown would come just a few days later. Rain doesn't mean any fewer people are out, though:. The Old City in Shanghai:. A butcher in the Old City:.

Mysteries of the Orient: May 2007

http://neallyweally.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 29, 2007. The party secretary told me that she had a talk with the student and asked her to stop the improper behavior right away. The student felt a bit afraid and losing face, and she agreed. I hope she will not disturb you any more. If she does, please let me know as soon as possible. Let's hope that the situation changes, though I imagine my last few weeks teaching her will remain awkward. From Stalker's myspace profile from May 28:. Mysteries of the Orient: December 2006

http://neallyweally.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 28, 2006. I'm off to Beijing tomorrow to meet up with a good friend Ellen, who will be in Beijing for about two days as part of a Vanderbilt orchestral tour of China. Since I'll be there for about five days, most of my time will be with random people, called couchsurfers, whom I've contacted online for a free place to sleep (plus gain cultural insight). So, wish me luck on that venture. Posted by Mysteries of The Orient at 7:15 AM. Sunday, December 24, 2006. Here noted, a local hotel h...

Mysteries of the Orient: November 2006

http://neallyweally.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 27, 2006. I'm stealing this idea from of a few of the other blogs I read. The list was supposed to be 100 things about myself, but I have a few more than 100. 1 I have no idea what I'm going to do with my life, but I'm enjoying the ride. 2 I'd be enjoying it more if I didn't have a heap of college debt to worry about. 3 My favorite color is blue. 4 I've been to 17 different countries and 34 of the states in the US. 7 I don't want to be an "easy detacher", but I think I am at times. 17 I ...

Mysteries of the Orient: June 2007

http://neallyweally.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 27, 2007. Let me recount the conversation I had today with a woman whose English is much worse than my Chinese, but who doesn't know I can speak Chinese (actually, she talks too much and doesn't listen to her conversational partner to even know what he is saying). Her husband teaches at the university, and I have briefly talked with her a couple of times, and it is always really awkward. Lady: Hello, sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Lady: Qingdao daxue laoshi happy no happy. Me: No happy, weihai happy.

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. My classes have also been going well. I think all of my five classes like me, save one really boring one. I'm having them do mid-semester evaluations for me this week, and I have gotten the results back from one of the classes, so hopefully my suspicions will be confirmed. Mysteries of the Orient: February 2007

Friday, February 09, 2007. Bus Rides. Subtitle: The Idiot's Guide to Pushing a Bus. Though the trip will definitely be remembered fondly, I won't forget how awful many of the bus rides were. Whether it was the fact that the seats were often crammed so close together that it was impossible to put your legs in front of you, or the simple lack of cleanliness, at times I would have almost rather walked. After sitting in this bus, yes, I'd very much like to go to Australia! Another stop, another plan of action.

Mysteries of the Orient: September 2006

http://neallyweally.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 28, 2006. In China, you expect everything to be different, and when it isn't, you're surprised. Living in China, with its emphasis on social support, at least informally if not mandated by the government, I expected my students to declare that of course, all companies should pay their employees enough to survive on more than bread and porridge each day! OK, that's all for now. I'm off to Beijing tomorrow for the National Holiday. Be back in about five days, with stories I'm su...The c...

Confessions of Character

Monday, July 6, 2015. And Then There Was June. Needless to say, June got away from me, so I missed four weeks of writing prompts. To make up for it, here are 4 prompts for June, plus the first one in July, which brings us up to Week 27! During the first couple weeks of June, I thought of the first writing prompt, but I wasn't able to find time (or articulate it well enough) to get it posted. This is the best I could come up with:. What fallout is there? All of the above? Lighten the mood and see what hap...

Ellen writes stuff | A lifestyle blog told by a Nottingham living in York

A lifestyle blog told by a Nottingham living in York. Post 90 – Pay day wish list. November 3, 2015. November 3, 2015. I have so much that I would like to buy this month, but I think the looming prospect of Christmas will dash any chances of ‘Ellen treat time’.
