Posted on 9. October 2014 by Els van der Laan. Why painting in the night? Normally artists paint during the day, because of the light, you can see the colors more clear and there are lots of other reasons. Now and than I like to paint in the nighttime. Especially when there is an exhibition coming up. Art Night or nightmare. Painting in the night has its own atmosphere. Did you try it once? For me is to start round eleven in the evening and go on until I get tired can be 3 o’clock, can be dawn.

I started painting in 1980 and has been doing so ever since next to my career as a psychotherapist. I studied in Amsterdam in the Netherlands at the Vrije Kunst Academy and for many years I took lessons in different techniques by several masters. My first exhibition in Amsterdam was in 1984. At that time I liked to work with water color. Later I changed to oil painting and now I work with acrylic and add different materials to make the colors sing. Posted on 9. October 2014 by Els van der Laan. I have been looking for half an hour at a white canvas, turned it around a few times, Now what. There is always that hesitating feeling by starting a new painting, It can last an hour ,a day or even more. Do you recognize that? I lumber around doing nothing special, make some tea, glance through a book not really seeing something, clean some palettes, put on the music, eat a cake, postpone, postpone. Waiting for that magic moment to come! Els van der laan.
