Em in Burkina: August 2006

http://www.em-in-burkina.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 19, 2006. Barely 10 minutes remain on my expensive-but-finicky internet card, so this post- likely my last before I get back to Canada on Wednesday- is going to be a quick rundown of what I've been up to over the last few days, but might not have much in the way of substance. Sorry! Posted by ecsplode @ 8:38 PM. Monday, August 14, 2006. Posted by ecsplode @ 12:31 PM. Friday, August 11, 2006. Posted by ecsplode @ 9:33 PM. Wednesday, August 09, 2006. Em in Burkina: July 2006

http://www.em-in-burkina.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 31, 2006. This brought us to sundown, when we headed to a flat-topped hill at the edge of town that afforded superb views of the entire city and the surrounding green countryside. Crops, mostly millet and petit mil, are beginning to sprout, making Burkina much lusher than it was when we first arrived. Posted by ecsplode @ 8:36 AM. Tuesday, July 25, 2006. Posted by ecsplode @ 10:23 PM. Thursday, July 13, 2006. I've already described how children will rush out, giggling "Nasaara! So now we're ...

Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Back to research. A plus tard! Posted by ecsplode @ 4:16 PM. Sunday, May 28, 2006. But on the one hand, it's so hot (40 degrees as I type) that it can be hard to do things. We get up at 6:30 most mornings because our little concrete house heats up so fast as soon as the sun rises, lie around for three hours at lunch, and are usually beat by 9:30 at night, probably because our bodies aren't really used to the heat. Monday, August 14, 2006. Em in Burkina" becomes "Em in Mali" this week, in my last full week of travel before I fly home next Wednesday. I got into Bamako, the capital, late yesterday evening after a 12-hour bus ride from Bobo-Dioulasso. Posted by ecsplode @ 12:31 PM. I will post more photos as the season progresses and visit more trails. Watching the fog drian into the valley at Rothenthurm. All geared up after skiing at Rothenthurm. Motivation to Blog Diminishing. In the spirit of the so-called awards season, here are some prizes from my vacation:. Constantines 10th anniversary show at Lee's Palace in Toronto. Epic. Greg in Switzerland: April 2010

http://gkswitzerland.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

April Showers Bring May Canadian Indie Rock Concerts in Switzerland. Sounds far-fetched, but I’m sure there is a correlation here. There are some very good acts playing over the span of two weeks around Switzerland (the nice thing about living in a small and accessible country). I’m excited because as of May 1 (providing there is no last minute political posturing) smoking is also banned inside bars and restaurants. Glorious! April 25th – Caribou. May 11th – Wintersleep. May 15th – Holy F$%. 1 Switzerlan...

Greg in Switzerland: Not just chocolate and mountain vistas

http://gkswitzerland.blogspot.com/2010/10/not-just-chocolate-and-mountain-vistas.html

Not just chocolate and mountain vistas. Apparently the Swiss are also world leaders in door technology. OK, so Switzerland as we know it, would not be around for another 4,000 or so odd years, but finder's keepers, right? Archeological investigations related to the construction of a new underground parking garage for the Zurich Opera House, have unearthed a 5,000 year old door! Apparently a very well preserved and rare find that helps improve our understanding of the development of construction technology.

Well it kind of ran into 2011, but I'm grad student, things are always running behind. The next three days were spent cross-country skiing in the Eastern Townships ( Parc national Mont-Mégantic. Great conditions for a bit of a ski. The gang at the end of the merry adventure. Plastic snowman wine glasses are an essential part of any New Year celebration. The view from Julie's back porch in Antigonish. The pre-game festivities at Le Centre Bell. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

http://gkswitzerland.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

In Case I Didn't Think I was Back in Europe. Two great sightings in two consecutive days. Thursday afternoon on the tram on the way to the migration office, I happened to see a father-son mullet parade.on scooters! Both of them riding in a row through downtown Zurich rocking mullets that would put early 90s Jaromir Jagr to shame. To top it off, the Dad was wearing the summer version of the Canadian Tuxedo. Yep, jean shorts and jean vest. Classic. Camping next to the fields. As noted in the previous post,...

For those who enjoy good music. Many people who know me, probably know that I espouse Canadian independent music any time I possibly can. While, here I go again. For those who don't know, the Polaris Music Prize. Is the name of the prize given annually since 2006 to the best Canadian recording of the year based solely on creative, artistic merit (Junos = farce). Irrespective of sales or genre. Most importantly, no Nickleback. Or the Great Lake Swimmers bring the prize home. Below, courtesy of CBC Radio 3.

Greg in Switzerland: Last Night's Gig: Dan Mangan at Parterre in Basel

http://gkswitzerland.blogspot.com/2010/11/last-nights-gig-dan-mangan-at-parterre.html

Last Night's Gig: Dan Mangan at Parterre in Basel. Simply astounding live set from Dan Mangan. The Mountains and the Trees. Which was the finale of his set and is my favourite of his songs. There was also a double bass involved, a fact I am always appreciative of. He played through the majority of songs on his album Nice, Nice, Very Nice including Sold, Road Regrets (that's a lot of coffee) and Basket. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sweet Weekend in Store. I mean if you only have a one word name for the tournament, it must be epic, right? Slowly chalking up European countries. Actually considering I'm been here three months and I've already been to Slovenia, Germany (for a day), and now Italy, I'm not doing too bad. I figure I've got three years so I can afford to take my time. My shorts thoughts on my trip along with some photos and a link to more photos on my Facebook page. San Marco Square at night. Emily's African Adventure

Rough guide to 21st April-5th May! May 5th, 2007 at 11:19 AM. I haven’t had a chance to go through these last few weeks in detail, but here’s an idea of what I’ve been up to. I’ve copied the site notebook so I do know what I did on site each day (if anyone cares! I had an email from one of the volunteers from. And when I left it was clear that Mthokosizi was a very troubled little boy). I also saw Hannah’s pictures of. 2 but the disc kept skipping and we had to abandon it about half way through. I’ve got...
