Watercolour Istanbul: Do you want to know the best time to eat fish here in Istanbul?
http://watercolouristanbul.blogspot.com/2015/07/do-you-want-to-know-best-time-to-eat.html
My work and my journey - painting, travel, and culture. Thursday, July 2, 2015. Do you want to know the best time to eat fish here in Istanbul? The best time to eat fish here is in September. I'll tell you why. The fish feast on the plankton in the warm summer months which thrive in the warm waters about the Bosphorus and the Black Sea. They grow fat and juicy. I learnt that shell fish which live in the sands round the coast filter the water and so clean it! Long talks with fishermen, and chats with frie...

Watercolour Istanbul: Artist's Statement, March 2014
http://watercolouristanbul.blogspot.com/p/artists-statement.html
My work and my journey - painting, travel, and culture. Artist's Statement, March 2014. Why paint an old pair of shoes? Why paint a rusty bucket? Watercolour painting is often seen as the definitive way to portray an awe-inspiring landscapes or city scape, why abuse this medium to depict ugly, hum-drum objects? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Watercolour Istanbul: The Axeman
http://watercolouristanbul.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-axeman.html
My work and my journey - painting, travel, and culture. Tuesday, May 12, 2015. My grandfather was born in 1901. Looking back it seemed to have been an interesting time to have been alive. His was the generation for whom world changing ideologies promised the fulfilment of utopian dreams. He dabbled in communism and had a thirst for adventure. For me as a child what was most important was that he had a great tool shed. Piles of well used old tools are pregnant with memories for me. I remember aspiring...

Watercolour Istanbul: December 2014
http://watercolouristanbul.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
My work and my journey - painting, travel, and culture. Friday, December 19, 2014. Inspiration in the 'Off season'. It feels like the 'off season' to me at the moment. The sky is grey and the colours are too. My framer is working hard to make up some frames for some pictures heading to some competitions in London. It's the annual attempt to penetrate the world of the British watercolour elite, so far I've been unsuccessful. Links to this post. Monday, December 1, 2014. Vachagan Narazyan a Russian born ar...

Watercolour Istanbul: November 2014
http://watercolouristanbul.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
My work and my journey - painting, travel, and culture. Friday, November 21, 2014. I've just read a blog post on what to do when you get too involved in a picture, 'give up' was the answer! I think I got too involved in this picture, then when you finish you think, um, that's. Too much, too much information, nothing left to the imagination etc. Too much colour, etc. Back to the drawing board. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Signup To My Newsletter. Watercolour Istanbul: Spring Fever
http://watercolouristanbul.blogspot.com/2015/05/spring-fever.html
My work and my journey - painting, travel, and culture. Monday, May 25, 2015. Yet again it's election season here in Istanbul. Last summer there was the Presidential election and the local government elections, this year it's the what I suppose we'd call the national assembly elections. The streets are adorned with bunting and huge flags are hanging everywhere. There are the big parties, just a few, and then a multitude of smaller ones all competing for our attention.
