Baci and King Cobra Hike | Laos: Please don't rush

https://emandtyler.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/baci-and-king-cobra-hike

Laos: Please don't rush. Adventures in the sticky rice lands. Skip to primary content. Baci and King Cobra Hike. January 20, 2014. Shortly after our trip to Vang Vieng, we went on a picnic with our country rep, Wendy, and two other friends, Julia and Anna, to a waterfall about 2 hours outside of the city. We stopped en route to pick up some sticky rice, meat, and other treats at an outdoor market. While the frog on a stick was tempting, we settled for some more benign chicken. If you have checked this blog recently at all, you will have noticed that it isn’t always up to date! I will try to catch up a little. So anyways, this Lao New Year, which fell on the 14-16 of April, Tyler, Margaret (friend and coworker) and I decided to visit the Bolaven Plateau, starting with the idyllic little village of Tad Lo. Story Cloth Tales: August 2012

http://storyclothtales.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 8 August 2012. The entrance to an old movie theatre in downtown Vientiane serves as a "fast food restaurant", serving up delicious rice soup, iced coffee and a variety of other local dishes. What were the favourite movies to come and watch in Vientiane prior to 1975? What will be the future destiny of this building located in a prime real estate area of the city? For today, it makes the perfect location for vendors to daily set up their "restaurant". Posted by thimble'n thread. One who smiles ...

Story Cloth Tales: Christmas 2012

http://storyclothtales.blogspot.com/2013/01/christmas-2012.html

Wednesday, 2 January 2013. The celebration of Christmas in Laos has become my favourite time of year. Throughout the capital there are hints of the Christmas season, but for the most part the commercialism of a western Christmas is absent and the focus is on time spent with friends. Group Photo at the Dam. Memorizing the course before doing it blindfolded. And now ready to do the course blindfolded. Group Photo at the US Ambassador's Residence. As mentioned earlier throughout the city of Vientiane there ...

Meandering through the milpa. Musings on life in Latin America while on assignment with MCC. Skip to primary content. On being a visitor. January 18, 2015. Whenever I am outside of Canada I contemplate what it means to be a visitor, but especially so in the last six months. Almost two years ago I wrote a post on the concept of Home. To be at home here? Do I actually have the right to name any place I feel comfortable in home? Who invited me to or consented to me living in Chiapas? Human migration, human ...

Just another WordPress.com site. June 8, 2012. Got the bus from Bowness on Solway and now at Carlisle station on the way back to Newcastle 🙂. June 8, 2012. Day 5 – Sands Sports Centre, Carlisle. Finally a decent evening meal in the sports centre cafe! June 7, 2012. Day 5 – crossing the M6. A significant feeling of progress and nice symmetry with crossing the A1 as we were walking out of Newcastle in the afternoon of day 1 (which I didn’t photograph unfortunately). June 7, 2012. Comment-link {margin-left:.6em;}. Friday, June 03, 2011. North Central Cascades Traverse. It’s interesting how routes are created. The pre-conception for this traverse began on Glacier Peak in 2003 as Peter and I looked south at an obvious high route connecting The Enchantments to Snoqualmie Pass. At that time, we had no idea that we were standing amidst a future Cascadian crossing. From then on, the map studying intensified as I tried to piece together an east to west high route. The folks of Holden Vil...
