Embo is a beautiful little former fishing village situated on the Dornoch Firth in Sutherland amid some of the most magnificent scenery in Scotland. The name Embo was first recorded around 1400 and the first cottage is believed to have been built in Back Street nearly two centuries later. Early settlers were predominantly called Mackay, Ross, Fraser, Cumming and Grant. Thousands of photos are taken every year at Embo beach and no wonder! A footpath follows the old railway track from the village to Loch Fleet nature reserve. Looking over the rape crop from the old railway line towards Grannies Heilan Hame. Mackays shop and Post Office - the heart of Embo. Embo Pier has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. Same pier, different day, but these holidaymakers seem unperturbed by the breakers.

A couple of holiday visitors take a stroll through Embo. Virtually every street in Embo faces south and leads to the sea. Daybreak is a deliightful time to wander the streets of Embo. Another street packed with houses of real character. Another day and another dawn in Embo. Most houses in Embo are only a short stroll from the beach. More Embo houses with a fine view of the sea.

Yellow on the broom at the superb setting of nearby Dornoch Golf Club. Oystercatchers are a familiar site in Embo - but not usually seen nesting on a dyke. A panoramic view from the village looking northwards to Golspie and Dunrobin Castle. The Blue Hall was a familiar Embo landmark until 2008. Parking is not usually such a problem in Embo. Thousands of holidaymakers visit Grannies Heilan Hame every summer. The historic Station House which was originally adjacent to the Dornoch railway line.
