Real Food: Our Favorite Meals: Sides

http://www.emilyandkolby-realfood.blogspot.com/p/our-favorite-meals-sides.html

Our journey to eating more traditional and nutritious foods. Our Favorite Meals: Sides. Here are some of our favorite sides. As I add new ones, I'll put them at the top. We pick whatever veggies we have around (like these pictured here, or any kind of pepper, plus garlic) and we cook them in some extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) over medium heat for several minutes. If we use tomatoes, we add those in at the very end. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Eating More Locally-Grown Produce. What Milk to Buy?

Real Food: What Milk to Buy?

http://www.emilyandkolby-realfood.blogspot.com/p/what-milk-to-buy.html

Our journey to eating more traditional and nutritious foods. What Milk to Buy? Step four: What milk to buy? First, let me share what I know about the various types of milk out there:. Milk comes from grain-fed cows raised in dairy feedlots. Milk is pasteurized (heated to 160 degrees to kill bacteria). Milk is homogenized (blasted through a filter to alter the fat particles so that the cream no longer floats to the top). Potential risks associated with homogenization ( article. Milk from grass-fed cows.

Real Food: Limiting Processed Foods

http://www.emilyandkolby-realfood.blogspot.com/p/limiting-processed-foods.html

Our journey to eating more traditional and nutritious foods. Our first step: Limiting processed foods. I don’t know anyone who would argue that eating a lot of highly processed foods is a smart health choice, so I won’t waste time delving into the ins and outs of this decision. In short, it has to do with trying to avoid refined sugar, white flour, additives, empty calories, excessive salt, and refined vegetable oils. Some transitions we’ve made in this area:. Eating more fresh seasonal produce. As an ad...

Real Food: Switching to Grass-Fed Beef

http://www.emilyandkolby-realfood.blogspot.com/p/switching-to-grass-fed-beef.html

Our journey to eating more traditional and nutritious foods. Switching to Grass-Fed Beef. Step five: Switching to grass-fed beef. For numerous reasons, I feel like this is one of our most important steps. It may be best to just refer to some websites that I found insightful, like this one. According to a study published in the Journal of Animal Science in 2002, grass-fed beef offers these benefits:. Lower in Fat and Calories. More Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Good Source of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). Produc...

Real Food: Getting informed about oils

http://www.emilyandkolby-realfood.blogspot.com/p/getting-informed-about-oils.html

Our journey to eating more traditional and nutritious foods. Getting informed about oils. Step six: Getting informed about oils. We figure that eating out at restaurants, which we probably do once or twice a week, will supply us with more than enough Omega 6-rich vegetable oils so we try to avoid them at home. Here. Is a website with some really helpful info about ways to decrease your consumption of Omega 6 and increase your intake of Omega 3, just scroll down the page to the blue and pink boxes.

The Jennings Family

http://jenningsdynasty.blogspot.com/2014/07/oh-how-fun-hammock-in-shade-can-be.html

Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Oh how fun a hammock in the shade can be. it entertains for hours! That entertainment allows me to help get some things done at the land. like our well/out house being painted. And the sink getting installed in the outhouse part of the building! Coming up next is the toilet! We just finished a very busy week of VBS at church. The kids had a blast and moms were exhausted. These are the three cutest cows I saw. The Jennings Family: Kittens and Concert

http://jenningsdynasty.blogspot.com/2014/08/kittens-and-concert.html

Sunday, August 17, 2014. So we have Eli with Spider-Man (the only boy kitten they had). And Lizzy with Cherry Cinnamon! They are pretty cute. They are starting to get used to us and play with us. Sugar is definitely the sweetest of the kittens. she loves to just be held. Spider Man is the most playful and Cherry is the scaredy cat. it takes her a bit longer to warm up to people. Two minutes later this is how they looked. We ended up not getting home til a little before midnight. First Day of 4th Grade.

The Jennings Family: July 2013

http://jenningsdynasty.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 20, 2013. Friday, July 19, 2013. Camping at Cooper Lake State Park. Last weekend we went camping with some friends in East Texas. Greg out in the water with most of the kids. They had a nice playground that we went to early in the morning before it was too hot. Lizzy and Jillian had a great time making "cookies" out of rocks. We also had a fun time throwing water balloons at every one. I conveniently left my bathing suit at home, so Greg got to do all the lake time with the kids!

The Jennings Family: Fun in the Mud/Sun

http://jenningsdynasty.blogspot.com/2014/07/fun-in-mudsun.html

Monday, July 21, 2014. Fun in the Mud/Sun. Greg and Eli are working the tiller getting the ground ready for building a septic system. The kids are loving going to the clubhouse pool because they can touch bottom all the way to the rope. They can swim and sit on the bottom of the pool, they can try and do hand stands. They even went off the diving board last night but I was in the pool and could not get a pic of it! So proud of them all for going off the diving board by themselves though. 4th of July Fun.

The Jennings Family: December 2013

http://jenningsdynasty.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 1, 2013. Well we started off our Thanksgiving having fun! There was lots of laughter and lots of Crazy Static-y Hair! Eli even got to put on the lights and hear the siren (which scared him a bit). He loved every bit of the ambulance though. Hope your Thanksgiving was better than ours! 9 years goes by too fast. I can not believe my baby is 9 years old already. I thank God for giving us such a precious little girl who has the most tender heart for others. Pilgrims, Friends, and Boats.

The Jennings Family: Catch-Up

http://jenningsdynasty.blogspot.com/2014/08/catch-up.html

Sunday, August 17, 2014. Caroline was super excited that we finally agreed to let her drive the 4-wheeler by herself. We had her drive with us on it and now we put it in second gear and let her go. with instructions to stay in the open areas. She has done a pretty good job. No one loves to work in the yard unless you get a good wheel-barrel ride! The kids are much more likely to help you work when they know they get to ride in the wheel-barrel after its empty. Saturday, January 19, 2013. We spent Christmas in Georgia this year. We recently bought a new camera so I was much better about documenting our trip. In fact, I took a lot of pictures. These are just a few I thought I'd share of our visit. We went to bear hollow and saw some Christmas lights and animals. There was also a visit from Santa and the kids roasted some s'mores. It was pretty chilly that night! We got to go to lunch with some friends - including Doyle and Chelsea. We love La Parilla! New Year's...

Samuel was baptized on April 12. [My post about Beckett's baptism. Has a bit about why we baptize our children.] It was one of my very favorite days of all time. We had a lot of friends and family there to celebrate with us, and also Kolby preached that morning. It was just a wonderful day. Here are a few pictures. Samuel's godparents are our dear friends from church, Chip and Sherry. Sealed by the Holy Spirit in baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever. Amen! Me and my boy. Then Sadie moved in on him.
