Ephemeral Curios: September 2014
http://emilyd47.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 27, 2014. When I found this butterfly, it was completely motionless. Closer inspection, however, showed that it was alive though torpid in the chilly morning. I let it crawl onto my finger, and my mammalian body heat must have given it a jump-start, because it fluttered out of sight. Links to this post. Labels: butterflies and moths. Thursday, September 4, 2014. A new marine invertebrate. Found off the coast of Australia, may be a survivor of Precambrian times:. There is this most int...

Life Before the Dinosaurs. Thursday, July 17, 2014. Lyrarapax is a new anomalocarid described on July 16, 2014. It’s the first known fossil of an anomalocarid that preserved the brain. The muscles of the swimming lobes are also preserved in the fossils. The study was published in the journal Nature, but I didn’t have access to the full article, only the abstract. My illustration of the head of Lyrarapax showing the brain and neural system. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I started this blog when I was seven ...
