Life is Grand: June 2009
http://grandins.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
The Random Musings of the Brand New Grandin Family. Thursday, June 25, 2009. St Thomas and The Walking Tour. We thought after the amazing day we had in St. Maarten, nothing on our cruise could possibly top it. But we were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful St. Thomas was! We took a walking tour from Blackbeard's Castle (which, by the way, is not a castle. Did Blackbeard ever visit). We posed with some awesome pirate statues, and then headed down the windy, steep road to see the rest of the island.

Life is Grand: The Perfect Weekend
http://grandins.blogspot.com/2010/03/perfect-weekend.html
The Random Musings of the Brand New Grandin Family. Monday, March 15, 2010. What's the recipe for a perfect weekend? I think we found it. Just mix together:. 1 hilarious trip to the grocery store. 1 amazing meal: Kalamata Lemon Chicken with Orzo and broiled portobello mushrooms. 1 close call with a pan not meant to go in the broiler. 10 minutes of trying to get the funky smell out of the apartment. 6 additional hours of sleep than the typical evening. 1 hour at Academy looking at baseball gear. 1 fascina...

The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh: December 2008
http://gernands-in-bangladesh.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh. Links to this post. In Bangladesh, they call Christmas “Boro Din” (Big Day) and New Year’s “Choto Din” (Small Day). Although there are few Christians here, most people are familiar with this holiday and the Government offices are closed for it. Also, they recognize our Gregorian calendar new year’s day, but the Bengali calendar new year starts on our April 14 (by the way, the current Bengali year is 1415). Ezra and the tree. The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh: On The River
http://gernands-in-bangladesh.blogspot.com/2009/06/on-river.html
The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh. Seeing as most of Bangladesh is a river delta, much of the romantic and nostalgic images that Bangladeshis have about their own country are associated in some way with the river or water in general. Recently, as part of my job, I had the opportunity to travel on a boat up the river to another village outside of our project area and visit a few sites along the way. You might find some of these pictures interesting. This is a larger boat, similar to the one tha...

The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi Consumers Have To Be Sharp. I've been meaning to put this on the blog for a while just because I think it is so funny (and scary), sort of like those dumb horror movies. So, you can get all kinds of things here, even stuff that would be outlawed in the U.S., meaning that you can make good use of your money, if you are also smart enough to not get killed by the things you buy. Links to this post. This is a mobile hospital boat visiting a village al...

Life is Grand: July 2009
http://grandins.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
The Random Musings of the Brand New Grandin Family. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Here's the first installment of what I'm sure will become a somewhat regular article on our blog: Things we've learned since we got married. I hope you enjoy, and feel free to add some of your wisdom as well. If you think cornbread is good for more than one week, you're wrong. If you think you have a strong enough stomach to handle cleaning out a pan of old cornbread, you're wrong. Monday, July 6, 2009. It was a wonderful endin...

The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh: At The Office
http://gernands-in-bangladesh.blogspot.com/2009/06/at-office.html
The Gernand Family (and Emily) in Bangladesh. Alison and I spend most of our work time in the office, probably about 65% for her, and 95% for me. It isn't exactly the same as your office in the U.S., but there are more similarities than differences. If you are curious, we thought you'd like to see a couple photos of the office where we work in Gaibandha. Here is Alison hard at work on Sunday morning. The work week here runs from Sunday through Thursday. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
