Artist Statement

Tuesday, March 2, 2010. I have used a wide range of media and venues in my artwork ranging from a stoneware clay figure to 100 identical Barbie dolls staged outside of Wal-Mart to an interactive cookie performance piece. Despite this great variety in my methods of expression, I continually focus on the same interconnected themes: basic human connection, relatability, self-expression, and self-discovery. As my work evolves, my objective remains the same: to explore the hidden aspects of myself and those o...

Untitled (Rebuild)

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. As I sit here just sighing. At the words I am writing. I feel my muscles twitch. Inside I feel this itch to be somewhere. I am something we all have in common is our humanity. Can’t say so much for sanity. Well I know I am lacking some special chromosome. That would determine the meaning of my mind. If I could find this mutation perhaps I’d be saved. Or perhaps the world would stand deprived of my variation. The only way to evolution is through mutation. Will collapse on itself.

Self-Mapping

Friday, January 7, 2011. Here is a small overview of my Self-Mapping project (going to make a better quality video):. I started self-mapping in Spring 2010 in my studio. Now I'm creating these pieces not as a map to lead me to self-discovery or a "cure," but as external manifestations of my journey thus far. What I once approached as a grand puzzle, a global game of sort...

T-Shirts

Saturday, December 17, 2011. Want one of your very own? Friday, December 10, 2010. I designed these T-Shirts and attempted to screen print them with the help of Ryan Bentzinger. Ryan then had to save my failed printing (many thanks). Then I craftily and seamlessly sewed them on. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Current MFA candidate in Sculpture. At the University of Iowa.
