Thinking about Literacy

Monday, December 6, 2010. Week 11- MGRP Reflection. Genre Summary and Reflection from my multigenre research paper. I chose to create a newspaper article, specifically an article in the school section of a local paper, because this is often where current events in a school corporation are shared with the general public. I would also focus on the voice used in the article. A newspaper reporter should portray a neutral voice that reports facts, but does not share opinions. The high contract colors, the chi...

Thinking about Literacy: Week 9- Literacy Invitations

http://www.emilymenkedick.blogspot.com/2010/12/week-9-literacy-invitations.html

Monday, December 6, 2010. Week 9- Literacy Invitations. Week 9- Literacy Invitations. The idea of literacy invitations makes sense within the context of the philosophy of whole language instruction. I think it is especially important that we instill in our students that, “inquiring into critical issues is complex work that won’t always lead to quick and easy answers” (Van Sluys, 2005, p. 25). I caught myself thinking about my kindergarten students and what invitations can look like for them. There is ver...

Thinking about Literacy: Week 10-Seedfolks

http://www.emilymenkedick.blogspot.com/2010/12/week-10-seedfolks.html

Monday, December 6, 2010. Is a wonderful story Ken Mochiszuiki is a story of a boy and his father in a Japanese internment camp in California during World War II. The perspective of a young child in this very difficult situation is very touching. Although there are some pieces of literature out there like this one, they are not very prevalent. It would be cool for the creation of documents from different perspectives to be an invitation! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Week 11- MGRP Reflection.

L549 Patti's Blog: Readings for 11/15

http://l549patti.blogspot.com/2010/11/readings-for-1115.html

Saturday, November 13, 2010. I traveled to China as a 10-year-old and spent a day in a school while I was there. How confusing! To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be getting from this reading other than an example of what can be done with different forms of literacy. If you'd like to see the actual multiliteracies map that's being discussed, I found it at an Australian website. November 15, 2010 at 12:08 PM. This is crazy, and Im not sure how I feel about it. Monday, November 1, 2010. More Show Than Tell. I am always amazed when a particular work is able to bring life to a character in a single paragraph, and sometimes even less. Allen’s Bringing Subjects to Life. I love garden metaphors. They are generous and expansive in interpretation and universal in application. In The Profit. Khalil Gibran speaks of friendship. “He is your field which you sow with love and reap with Thanksgiving.”. Paul Fleishman’s, Seedfolks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

bilblog: MGRP in Action

http://kikikazee.blogspot.com/2010/10/mgrp-in-action.html

Monday, October 18, 2010. Today was the first week of the School of Education’s Science Saturday program. After this week’s readings I had a much clearer picture of multi-genre usage within a single theme. I participated in this week’s installment of Science Saturday and was able to see firsthand the effects of multi-genre usage on the learning process. Though it was scheduled for between 9:30 am and 12 PM it ran a little long. The elementary students were divided into three groups, k-2nd, 3rd-4.

You'll need it for the final MGRP push! November 7, 2010 at 8:52 PM. I agree that some topics are better than others for this type of project. I was lucky with mine I suppose. Saturday, November 27, 2010. Links to this post. Friday, November 19, 2010. Is anyone else as excited about learning to edit videos as I am? While I can think of plenty of ways to use it in the classroom, I'm more interested in it from a personal perspective. I have tons of video that we've taken over the years, none of which has ever been viewed or edited. I realize that the tool we're using isn't that fancy, but just to learn the basics is exciting to me. Links to this post. Saturday, November 13, 2010.

Saturday, November 27, 2010. November 28, 2010 at 8:01 PM. I like your idea of finding something more positive to replace what we dont agree with. We cant control everything that kids are exposed to but we can express our opinions and encourage kids to think critically about not only media-related topics but also about proper ways to respond and behave. bilblog: The Power of Multi-genre

http://kikikazee.blogspot.com/2010/11/power-of-multi-genre.html

Wednesday, November 24, 2010. The Power of Multi-genre. My experience with the multi-genre project was much different than I expected. I was prepared to learn more about multiculturalism and the benefits of building a multicultural classroom community. I believed this would come through investigation on my research paper. I did not have much confidence that the other genres would be as persuasive, nor would they provide any additional understanding. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Arthur J. Tippin.

L549 Patti's Blog: Readings for 10/18

http://l549patti.blogspot.com/2010/10/readings-for-1018.html

Saturday, October 16, 2010. The Powell and Davidson article, "The Donut House." made me think about how, when trying to spread a good idea around, the true benefit gets diluted. How many of us have gone on a field trip, maybe taken notes or drawings during the field trip, written or drawn up a report, and maybe written a thank-you note? I think so. Typically, they study something close enough to their school that they can walk to it, much like the doughnut shop in the article. October 17, 2010 at 7:55 PM.

Sunday, November 28, 2010. Myths That Bind and Divide. In seeming awareness of past wrongs or in an effort to jump on the political correctness bandwagon, Disney has made an attempt to show minorities in a positive light. However, the addition of feature-length cartoons Mulan. These shallow attempts to rectify errors of the past ring hollow. Must think and fight like a man in order to succeed. 我的小小说

When you are in troble, don't try to be brave, just ran, just run away.
