What is MLD?

Is there any treatment? There is no cure for MLD. Bone marrow transplantation may delay progression of the disease in some cases. Other treatment is symptomatic and supportive. (Please read Emma's story as she has survived). What is the typical prognosis? The prognosis for MLD is poor. Most children with the infantile form die by age 5. The progression of symptoms in the juvenile and adult forms is slower and those affected may live a decade or more following diagnosis.

MLD is a genetic disorder. Both parents are typically carriers for the MLD gene (in rare instances there are new mutations). Approximately, 1 in 100 people carry the MLD gene. Approximately 1 out of every 40,000 children are affected by MLD. If the gene is carried by both parents, for each child, there is a 25% chance the child will have MLD. There is a 50% chance that the child will be a carrier. There is a 25% chance that the child will neither have the gene nor MLD. You can email us at:.

Emma's Foundation continues to raise awareness through pushing for newborn screening in California. By signing up with Emma's Foundation, you can help the foundation push for screening in Californina. By testing for MLD at birth, many children will be given the opportunity to explore treatment options. It is far too often that MLD is mis-diagnosed ( See Emma's Story. Or the diagnosis comes too late. Now to assist Emma's Foundation push for newborn screening. Will be sent directly to Duke Univeristy.

I helgen har jag varit hos Dennis, en dag på crossbanan igår blev en dag i bilen för min del pga min förkylning / influensa eller vad det nu är, det var jobbigt att vara utomhus i alla fall.
