Thinking: October 2008
http://designstrategies.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 16 October 2008. I plan to try some new things, or go back to techniques I've tried before and want to get back into. In particular screen printing and other useful print techniques I will benefit from. I definitely know I'm not interested in web based design, so using print method's is something I want to understand a lot more and get to know all the possible techniques available to me and apply it into my own work. Making sense of things without text, but symbols and diagrams perhaps? 2 CONTE...

Thinking: :: First Crit - Environmental Impact
http://designstrategies.blogspot.com/2008/11/first-crit-environmental-impact.html
Friday, 7 November 2008. First Crit - Environmental Impact. After this crit I feel much happier with the way I'm working, it's cleared up a few problems I was having with this brief but it's pushed me in the right direction. Here's some of the feedback I received. If possible try and stick to using one unit, to keep a kind of theme and save any confusion. Relate it to things people might understand better, ie "Every sheet of paper that is made releases the same harmful gases as a cow farting! Is there an...

Final Major Project: FMP Evaluation
http://emmawidnallfmp.blogspot.com/2009/06/fmp-evaluation.html
Friday, 5 June 2009. When writing my original Statement Of Intent (SOI) I was a bit uncertain as to what I might be letting myself in for. When deciding on my subject matter for the Final Major Project (FMP), I was still deep within the progression of my dissertation, with it’s title being “Can graphic design be sustainable? Whether using my design practice to help others understand what it is to be sustainable, or creating my own response to sustainable design. So again, looking at it against the origin...

Final Major Project: Completed 'Sweet Enough'
http://emmawidnallfmp.blogspot.com/2009/06/completed-sweet-enough.html
Tuesday, 2 June 2009. So there it is. All the elements to the confections brief. Then there's the proposal for the website, which still needs a bit a tweeking. Such as applying the new and imrpoved identity to it and adding a bit more text. To finish this brief off now, I just need to sort the layouts out for the submission boards. I'm thinking of doing about 4 or 5 A3 boards. Then it'll be sorted. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A banker's view on why Amazon is the scariest competitor.

Thinking: Final Crit - Type Factory
http://designstrategies.blogspot.com/2008/12/final-crit-type-factory.html
Wednesday, 10 December 2008. Final Crit - Type Factory. For the final crit, as both of my other two briefs, "Environmental Impact of Design" and "10 things you should know about Graphic Design" are pretty much complete, "Type Factory" was the one and only I needed any feedback for. It is well on it's way, I've chosen 4 identity ideas to focus on and from the crit feedback, I wanted to come away with my final decision for the one I want to take forward and apply to 'stuff' in relation to the brief. The ty...

Final Major Project: 'Sweet Enough' Evaluation
http://emmawidnallfmp.blogspot.com/2009/06/sweet-enough-evaluation.html
Thursday, 4 June 2009. I've now come to the end with the confections brief. The products are constructed. the photo's have been taken and the submission boards have been put together and printed. Now it's time to do some reflecting. So, the brief was to create an identity for a sweet shop, in the location of my choice. With a similar theme to the traditional sweet shop. Where you receive your sweets by measurements from the glass jars on the shelves. But that's all come down to the little details, pr.

Final Major Project: March 2009
http://emmawidnallfmp.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 March 2009. Nothing is a new commercial creative agency formed by Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten in Amsterdam. The Nothing office is built almost entirely out of cardboard. A 'no screw no glue' technique. The Nothing team took the idea behind the company name (taking nothing and turning it into something) as the starting point for the physical design of the office; which included creating walls, signage, beams, tables, shelving and even a set of stairs out of cardboard. Final Major Project: Sweet Enough Stationery
http://emmawidnallfmp.blogspot.com/2009/05/sweet-enough-stationery.html
Friday, 29 May 2009. I've finally got the printing of the Sweet Enough stationery done today. I've created a business car, a compliment slip, a letterhead and an invoice layout. I found a lighter grey stock to what I originally intended, which has worked a lot better behind the purple body copy. Unfortunately the photo's have come out quite dark, but you get the idea. Final Major Project: February 2009
http://emmawidnallfmp.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2009. Sustainable development is like teenage sex – everybody claims they are doing it but most people aren’t, and those that are, are doing it very badly.". Thinking: November 2008
http://designstrategies.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 30 November 2008. Design For Environment - HELP! I'm having a major dilemma with this brief! It was the one that started off well and was on it's way to completion quite quickly. Until I hit the problem of printing! So far, I've designed the leaflet that turns into a poster, figured out all the folds and how I wanted it to function. Got the type and layout complete, with all the illustrations. Then the next step was to screen print it onto recycled paper. Which I thought would be straight forward.
