An American's Guide to Life in Small-Town France: Midnight Sun

An American's Guide to Life in Small-Town France. In which I attempt to become French, while teaching high school students how to be American. Saturday, May 21, 2011. So, the summer solstice is a month away, so there are technically only 19 hours of daylight (with sunset at 10:56pm and sunrise at 3:52am), but that does not mean it is actually dark during the "dark" hours. It is never dark here! Even when the sun sets, it's so close to the horizon that it is still light. It's crazy! To Infinity and Beyond.

An American's Guide to Life in Small-Town France. In which I attempt to become French, while teaching high school students how to be American. Thursday, April 28, 2011. Travel with parents, part 1. I finished teaching last Friday. My parents arrived in Toulouse on Saturday! Sunday, we got up and picked up our rental car then headed out of town to Albi. It is beautiful. We did the hikes for some of the chateux and chose to photograph some from below. There really isn't much once you get up there- they...

An American's Guide to Life in Small-Town France. In which I attempt to become French, while teaching high school students how to be American. Monday, March 28, 2011. The rest of Winter Break: Amsterdam, Belgium, and Cologne. After my awesome week in Berlin, I got on an early train with Sam to the airport and she headed off to Wales to see her sister while I flew to Amsterdam to see mine! So as not to ramble, I'll list the highlights. In a really old bar with about 200 Belgian beers. Saw a Roman/Germanic...

Favorable Forecast: Speech Contest
http://favorableforecast.blogspot.com/2012/11/speech-contest.html
What a wonderful day to be. Thursday, November 29, 2012. Last week grades 3 to 6 participated in an English speech contest. I was, of course, unaware of it until the day before I was meant to judge it, and so I was surprised at the amount of work the students had put into it! Had had time to prepare and so must have known about it much earlier. I thought this was crazy, but there were no breaks between speeches and it was soon clear that I would not have time to think about the points! Also, I was shocke...

Favorable Forecast: June 2012
http://favorableforecast.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
What a wonderful day to be. Friday, June 1, 2012. Seoraksan or Get Off That Damn Computer and Go Outside! Traveling from Busan was about a 6 hour bus ride up the coast, so we did it overnight and arrived to Sokcho at 4 am. Then we waited around for an hour and a half, watching the sun come up over the ocean and waiting for the local buses to start running. We caught the first bus of the day out to the park, a 30 minute ride. There were lanterns up for Buddha's birthday. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
