This WordPress.com site is the cat’s pajamas. What do you do after retiring? Stay busier than when you were working full time! After thirty-two years as a public school high school teacher, raising two wonderful sons and all the attendant school and child activities, I thought retirement would be relaxing. However, the old adage is true – how did I find time to work? This entry was posted on October 13, 2012. Leave a comment. And another year bites the dust…. Blog at WordPress.com.

This WordPress.com site is the cat’s pajamas. And another year bites the dust…. In my first post I wrote I didn’t realize how busy retirement could be … since that post was a year and a half ago, I guess I was right! Between traveling to see one son across the country, dog shows, adding quilting to my retirement bucket list and so on, I continue to be amazed at how much there is to do! 8211; you should! I have now joined a blogger’s Quilt Along – at http:/ www.sassyquilter.com. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

This WordPress.com site is the cat’s pajamas. After decades as a mother and teacher, I am now entering a new phase in my life – retired with two wonderful adult sons out living their lives and making their way in the world at large. So what comes next? Life with my husband of 30 years with time to pursue old and new interests – gardening, sewing, crafts, dog showing, reading, homemaking, canning, traveling … and the list keeps growing! Whoever first wondered how they ever had time to work was right!

Empty Nest Full Life
Thursday, January 1, 2015. Saturday, October 18, 2014. Yesterday was spent playing musical fixtures. This room used to be our living room, now our dining room. This is where the ceiling fan used to be. The ceiling fan in my son's room was on its last leg. Because the ceiling fan in this room was large it needed to go in what is now our. The living room fan went to my son's room. Needless to say my husband spent the day swapping out fixtures in three rooms. He is awesome, and I love my new light fixture.

Empty nest, full stomachs. Stories and recipes from the empty nest. A ROAD TRIP TO THE GARDEN STATE. August 25, 2013. We drove to New Jersey last weekend to pick peaches and plums and spend the weekend with Denise’s family. Denise grew up in New Jersey and I spent a lot of my adult life there. I suppose it’s no surprise that the Jersey girls who met in Virginia became fast friends. We were in the orchard by 9:00. The farm was enormous. Fields of grapes, nectarines, apples, peaches, blueberries-it...We fo...

Monday, May 21, 2012. New Rugs for the Kitchen. I love anything with bees on it. I found this bee pillow on-line at Ballard Designs. I'm using it in the living room. Now they have rugs that match the pillow and my daughter bought me this one for Mother's Day. I was going to put it in my bathroom but decided it looked better in front of the kitchen sink. (Ignore the drying dishes). I really liked it so I bought myself the larger one to use by the stove. And the best part is they are on sale! From left to ...

Empty Nest Glassworks
Hand melted glass by Betsy Houde. Shades of blue, sage & lavender. Inspiration from a bedding catalog translated to glass! This combination started as a multi-colored toss pillow! This combination made festive beads on a black background. New colors and styles for winter! Click on the photo gallery to see what these look like as finished glass pieces! I chop glass rods to become “frit”. Black glass rolled it in the “CHI” frit. Craftworkers’ Guild Accepts Betsy as Member. October 11, 2014. October 15, 2013.
