Hikaruland: World Expo of Queues
http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010/10/world-expo-of-queues.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Sunday, October 24, 2010. World Expo of Queues. As I write this, I’m actually in Tokyo, but before I delve into things here, I wanted to talk about Shanghai. The purpose of the Shanghai stop was pretty much exclusively to see Expo 2010. See it, I did. See pavilions? Perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there would be nasty queues at a major global event hosted by a country over a billion people, but it certainly did to me. It was over an hour’s wai...

Hikaruland: It Ain’t A Small World after all
http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010/10/it-aint-small-world-after-all.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. It Ain’t A Small World after all. 8220;This is a pen” is the basic English phrase that many Japanese learn at school. It’s also a bit of a pun on the famous Magritte painting about a pipe. My time in Tokyo did feel a bit like a step into Belgian absurdity. I say tourist route, but basically I mean going to and from Tokyo Disneyland. Whether that justifies 3 hour waits for a Winnie the Pooh ride or a jacked up version of the Haunted Man...

Hikaruland: April 2010
http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Friday, April 30, 2010. Friday Jukebox is Hoarse. I’m not going to sugar coat it at all, my voice is buggered, and has pretty much been non-existent for the past fortnight, ergo no April video log…and believe you me it is killing me because I have A LOT TO SAY, but the Benadryl tends to make writing it out not a dignified option. (See that pretty cloud, or is it the skylight? You get the idea.). Monday, April 12, 2010. Stop at Redfern for Birth Control? American...

Hikaruland: The Nation at Work?
http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010/10/nation-at-work.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Tuesday, October 05, 2010. The Nation at Work? Him: It’s really simple. He makes a few selections which seem to suggest that I’m already a customer.). I’m not already customer. Him: What’s your name? The polite accoster is nowhere to be found. After about a half-hour I manage to get some degree of service by another employee who never quite grasps that I want the cheapest basic phone because I just need one for two days. . Then there’s a computer glitch. I am ra...

Hikaruland: December 2010
http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Friday, December 31, 2010. A Long Time Between Drinks. Well, it's been over a month since I've updated this corner of the Internet, and the main reason why is not laziness, but concern for my company. Next year, I will be launching (after much clearance with what I can and cannot say) a new Hikaruland, which will have a new title (also befitting my relocation to Melbourne). It's a new decade ahead, and I reckon it's going to be a cracker. View my complete profile.

Hikaruland: September 2010
http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Thursday, September 02, 2010. Well, to be honest, August was not a good friend of mine. Late in July, I received a call from a family friend that my mother’s illness had gotten worse. I jumped on the first flights I could in order to get from Sydney to Milwaukee. From that point onwards, I was very fortunate spend the month of August with my mother. Sadly, last night (CDT) she passed away. I would like to mention several of my mother’s accomplishments:. My mothe...

http://hikaruland.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Monday, July 26, 2010. Monday Jukebox Talks Fashion and Electropop. The comeback is not just lurching, it’s coming so fast I can feel it breathing down my neck. But it isn’t here yet. (And after what Penny Wong said. My opinion gun is locked and loaded.). No, today it’s another jukebox. Another Korean jukebox in fact. I have no problem admitting that I like electropop, but as innovative as it can be…. 8230;its success creates some shoddy imitators. Misadventures, Pop Culture, and Socialism. Thursday, October 21, 2010. I believe that work and health will not delay me for the remainder of the trip. (Although that being said, the air here is not the healthiest in the world.). The next stop shouldn't be a major surprise to anyone who has followed this corner of the internet: it's not Korea, but close by. Posted using BlogPress from my iPad. 21 October, 2010 11:15.
