Kirgisistan – wir sind dann mal weg
http://blog.wsdmw.net/category/etappen/kirgisistan
Igor & Bob.

Laquo; Cross-cultural Fail. August 29, 2010. For me swimming is not a planned activity. It’s something that I occasionally find myself doing for which I am habitually unprepared. Furthermore, since I never expect to swim I never have a swim suit with me. I have ruined countless idyllic beach photos with gym shorts and a sports bra. Polar Bear Club St. Petersburg. August 8, 2010. First of all, thank you guys for making this fun. When I began this blog I said I wanted to post daily for the first month and that’s finished. I’ve had such a good time writing and hearing from all of you that I’m going to keep going, though scaled down to weekly posts. Or leave a trackback: Trackback URL. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. August 3, 2010. The Kyrgyz are traditionally Muslim, but currently practices are not particularly strict. Kyrgyz drink vodka, Friday is a work day, some people eat pork, Bishkek does not fast during Ramadan, and there is only one mosque in downtown Bishkek. Or leave a trackback: Trackback URL. August 13, 2010. In an attempt to be cross-culturally sensitive I marked all the Islamic holidays in my calendar for my summer in Kyrgyzstan and would read about each one as it approached- since Muslim holidays run on a lunar schedule the dates can be confusing. Simply because I find it interesting, I would pester my Kyrgyz friends to tell me about how and why various holidays are celebrated. Long pause] I made you lunch.” He stared at me for a good long time. Or leave a trackback: Trackback URL. You are...

Laquo; Istanbul Breakfast. The Picnic Strikes Back. August 1, 2010. While there are many similarities between Russian and Kyrgyz culture, picnic etiquette is not among them. Nothing will be pickled and only difficult to transport foods can be eaten. Come to think of it eating in general can be a tricky business in Kyrgyzstan so I’ve taken it upon myself to create a brief eating survival guide. 3 You are not a vegetarian- trust me. If you are foolish enough to ignore my advice and claim to not eat mea...
