Enceladus is a drug development company, which started as a spin-off from Utrecht University, The Netherlands. Enceladus is product-oriented and aims at finding innovative combinations of existing drugs and drug carrier systems. With this approach it can effectively design new pharmaceuticals for which clinical development is relatively straightforward. Enceladus is embedded in an extensive academic network with strong expertise in colloidal drug carriers for the design of novel anti-inflammatory products.

Erik van den Heuvel. Dr Schoots is director of the Utrecht University Technology Transfer offices (Utrecht Holdings). He received a Ph.D. in medicine from UU and worked as a postdoctoral research at the Rudolf Magnus Institute in Utrecht. Dr. Schoots worked for a specialized independent technology transfer organization and he obtained his MBA in 2002. As of 2002 he works for Utrecht Holdings. Liposomal prednisolone for acute manifestations of inflammatory diseases. Enceladus performed a first-in man study in 22 RA patients. On the basis of these results the product was partnered for RA with a global pharmaceutical company and a phase 2b study is in preparation. We have an ongoing 20-patient trial in active ulcerative colitis. The completion of the study is foreseen in the beginning of 2014. After completion of the study we will initiate partnering discussions for this indication.

Dr Bart Metselaar – Chief Executive Officer. Mr Metselaar was trained as a pharmacist at the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Utrecht University and invented the liposomal corticosteroid technology platform. From 2005 on he managed the company’s research projects, patent portfolio and daily operations. Čistá voda nad zlato. Žijeme na Zemi a rádi zvedáme hlavu k obloze. Občas objevíme zázraky: v atmosféře planety Saturn se vyskytují molekuly vody, vodní pára tryská ze Saturnova ledového měsíce s názvem Enceladus. Pod jeho povrchem se skrývá zřejmě celý oceán. Je to senzace a jistě i cíl budoucích vesmírných misí. Avšak žijeme na Zemi a hlavu bychom měli i sklánět v úctě k přírodě této planety. Bude úžasné, až život ve vesmíru objevíme. Jde o to, abychom ho tady mezitím neztratili.
