Chitwood, located along modern day Highway 20, was founded in 1860. The area once thrived with logging, mining and rail travelers from the Willamette Valley to the coast. Eventually a realigned road system gained favor over the rail system and Chitwood went quiet. There's not much left in Chitwood worth mentioning except for the Chitwood Covered Bridge. Which was under renovations during our visit. Check in often as you'll never know where we'll be headed next. Read more about the project.
