The slow and steady process of ending waste. Sunday, July 4, 2010. Unfortunately, very few cereals can be bought in bulk. And even then you end up with bag; you just save the cardboard box. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. The Red, White, and Green.

End Waste: Buying Food
http://blog.endwaste.org/2010/07/buying-food.html
The slow and steady process of ending waste. Friday, July 2, 2010. Just as healthy food starts with your purchasing habits in the grocery store (or farmer's market), food (and packaging) waste starts there as well. Here are some ideas of how to cut down on food waste during your next shopping trip. Have a plan. Know what you need and focus on those items. Calculate how much they get from non-meat sources (especially milk), convert the number of grams you need into meat portions. Needless to say but every...

End Waste: Clamshell Containers
http://blog.endwaste.org/2010/07/clamshell-containers.html
The slow and steady process of ending waste. Friday, July 16, 2010. I love berries, but with each bunch of straw/blue/ras/blackberries comes yet another clamshell container. I've given up buying baked stuff (cookies, croissants, danish, etc) that are packaged in clamshells. [Guilt x 2]. You can usually get the baked goodies in another type of container [Guilt x 1]. But berries for some reason (squishing and the need to ventilate I presume) are almost always in a clamshell. PLA and other bioplastics.

End Waste: Google Powermeter
http://blog.endwaste.org/2010/07/google-powermeter.html
The slow and steady process of ending waste. Saturday, July 10, 2010. One thing we don't waste is money. We very rarely lose money or spend it without noticing. Why? One thing is we are constantly aware of where it is and how much there is. And when some gets taken away we notice. Imagine if you could only check your wallet one time per month. So all you would know is that in April you had $145 and in May you had $52. How could you make a good decision about your spending habits? Free] and the TED 5000.

Parking lot and show them how much energy it takes to move the car [you need another adult to be in the car at all times! Be forewarned that the next time you want to go on a car trip (that doesn't interest them) you are likely to get questioned about the need to move 6000 lbs to get 1 lb of strawberries. End Waste: Say Goodbye to Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
http://blog.endwaste.org/2010/06/say-goodbye-to-reducereuserecycle.html
The slow and steady process of ending waste. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Say Goodbye to Reduce/Reuse/Recycle. I think we maxed out on the value of Reduce/Reuse/Recycle. Although recycling is still ok, I don't think that's the solution, in fact it is holding us back. Reduce: how much is enough? Don't just reduce waste, eliminate it! Reuse: If we have this feeling that it might be "reused" then perhaps it isn't so bad. And how many reuses before it gets tossed? Remember the litterbug campaign?

End Waste: Keep Your (Hotel) Room Clean
http://blog.endwaste.org/2010/06/keep-your-hotel-room-clean.html
The slow and steady process of ending waste. Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Keep Your (Hotel) Room Clean. The hotel room is an enormous source of waste including: excessive use of cleaning products, emptying (mostly empty) trash and inserting new plastic liners, and changing towels linens/daily - who would do that in their own home? End Waste: Food Waste
http://blog.endwaste.org/2010/06/food-waste.html
The slow and steady process of ending waste. Monday, June 28, 2010. Ending food waste is especially tricky. Food waste is different in many ways. Getting to zero food waste (not eating) isn't really an option. You can't really predict what other folks will do so your plan might fail because someone's appetite changes, someone doesn't show up, or more people than planned show up. Even the weather can effect food waste; rain and ruin some food, for others heat will do it in. The difference between wasteful...

End Waste: Free Newspaper

The slow and steady process of ending waste. Saturday, June 12, 2010. Your hotel room probably leaves a free copy of the paper outside your room. Actually its not free (even leaving aside the cost to the environment of paper creation, processing and delivery). This is touted as an example if nudge. While you are at it tell them you don't want the key to the minibar either (more waste and another sneaky way of making money). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
