The Kissed Mouth: All Aboard!

Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian Art for all! A Curl of Copper and Pearl. We Are Villains All. Thursday, 6 August 2015. Where on earth am I? Did I doze off again? It's good to have a companion while travelling to poke you awake at the relevant station. If possible, travel with your doppleganger as by a nifty combination of hiding in the loo and keeping a look-out you can possibly get away with one ticket. I still maintain that. Scene in a Railway Carriage with a Man and Two Women. Coming South: Perth Station.

Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian Art for all! A Curl of Copper and Pearl. We Are Villains All. Friday, 21 August 2015. There are artists whose paintings you will recognise but when you come to look into their lives, there is surprisingly little information available. You may find a couple of entries in artist dictionaries, a Wikipedia entry and that will be it. About a week ago I featured this painting over on my Facebook page. Come join me there, it's delightful and filled with gossip). Was sent over to the...

Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian Art for all! A Curl of Copper and Pearl. We Are Villains All. Friday, 30 January 2015. John Collier, Obviously. Born 1850, John Collier is probably remembered these days as a minor Pre-Raphaelite, catching the edges of the movement and occasionally applying it to his works. In his lifetime he was recognised as a portraitist of tremendous skill and feeling, and produced images of the leading men of the day, many of which we recognise as being their almost 'official' image.

Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian Art for all! A Curl of Copper and Pearl. We Are Villains All. Saturday, 27 June 2015. Turns out my father is Sherlock Holmes. In many ways I shouldn't have been surprised by this news but within the first few minutes of watching the new film. I was convinced that Daddy was actually the Victorian era's greatest detective. It was the bees that gave it away. Out at cinemas this week is the adaptation of Mitch Cullin's novel. A Slight Trick of the Mind. The Young Sherlock Holmes.

Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian Art for all! A Curl of Copper and Pearl. We Are Villains All. Saturday, 28 February 2015. Tennyson and Illustration: Interview with Robin Lawrie. As I said yesterday, I have a sizeable collection of illustrated editions of Tennyson’s poems. Really, Mr Walker quite despairs. A recent addition was a collection called The Falling Splendour. Edited by the poet George MacBeth, which I must admit I bought because the front cover was so gorgeous. How did you get the job? I especiall...

Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian Art for all! A Curl of Copper and Pearl. We Are Villains All. Saturday, 27 September 2014. Impromptu Celtic Revival/Souls Crossover Road Trip! So it's the last Saturday in September and I had very little planned. The next month will be very busy, so possibly it would be nice to have a weekend off. Well, that was the plan. Instead I ended up on an impromptu road trip to see a church. And the figures depicted are somewhat familiar. To say that the effect is amazing feels like a...
