http://engineering.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/2015/06/17/high-tech-nanofibres-could-help-nutrients-in-food-hit-the-spot
High-tech nanofibres could help nutrients in food hit the spot. New research outlines how the creation of ‘nanofibres’ could provide new and improved products and delivery systems for supplementary foodstuffs. Nanofibre materials produced through a process called electrospinning are attracting particular attention in the food industry because of their potential to control the release of chemical constituents in the body. In the journal Food Hydrocolloids. Co-author Dr Nick Tucker. Different methods have ...

http://engineering.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/2015/07/29/new-database-could-make-airport-ground-movements-quicker-greener-and-cheaper
New database could make airport ground movements quicker, greener and cheaper. A new system for calculating the quickest and most fuel efficient routes for moving aircraft on the ground could transform the way our airports operate, according to new research. The new system, built on a database of pre-computed routes, would be much faster than the current approach. Unlike the existing system, which is technically complex and demanding on computing power, it could also be used in real-time, reacting to...

August 6, 2015. This is a post by Suruchi Shah, engineering intern on the Search and Data Infrastructure Team at BloomReach. In a multi-tenant search architecture, as the size of data grows, the manual management of collections, ranking/search configurations becomes non-trivial and cumbersome. This blog describes an innovative approach we implemented at BloomReach that helps with an effective index and a dynamic config management system for massive multi-tenant search infrastructure in SolrCloud. The Blopboard Engineering Blog. Fixing High CPU Usage in Logstash. March 31, 2015. I blogged previously about our Logstash installation. Some time after we’d set it up, we noticed the CPU usage on the Logstash server was constantly at or near 100%, even with only minor load. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the type of issue that was easy to google for and it took some time to track down a working solution, so I thought I’d share it here. The source of the solution ended up being a thread. January 23, 2015.
