Living & Serving in Hong Kong: First week home
http://servinghongkong.blogspot.com/2012/05/first-week-home.html
I have been back in the States for about a week and am finally feeling like I'm over some of this jetlag. I had quite a whirlwind first week back! After taking a couple of days to rest I went up to my alma mater and talked to the Institute for Leadership Excellence about my experiences in Hong Kong and Servant Leadership. They were an inquisitive group and I was happy to field all kinds of questions from them. I'm surrounded by vast farmland and cow pastures. Even the cities feel spread out when comp...

Merry Christmas / Happy New Year! Glory to God in the highest and peace to all people on earth! Apologies for the sparse updates this month. It has certainly been a busy one! Let me be quite honest here: It was hard being away from family and friends this time of year. As excited as I was to celebrate the joy of Christ's coming into the world with my dear friends here, I missed being home. I missed my parents and my brothers and my friends. I missed St. Paul's! Practicing for the competition. My friend M...
Living & Serving in Hong Kong: January 2012
http://servinghongkong.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Now that I have recuperated from last week's illness I am ready to jump back into work- and blogging! The last few months have been lacking in posts so I'm going to try and get more up. Since the Taize service last week I have been thinking about the miracle of changing water into wine. The reading was the wedding at Cana, during which a reluctant Jesus tells some servants to fill some jugs with water, and then when they fill their flasks it turns into a delicious wine. Grace and Peace,. One of my friend...

Consecration and Installation of Rt. Rev. Andrew Chan. This weekend was a bit of a break from Lent as we paused to celebrate the new ministry of former dean and now Bishop Andrew Chan. Reading prayers in English perfectly. Be still my heart! RC Bishop and Orthodox Bishop. Then, to my surprise, they told me to go up and sit in the choir loft. I tentatively tip-toed up the stairs and a kind lady gave me her seat right behind the blue-robed choir members. After the service there was a photo taking frenzy an...

Work update; Marcella. I hope all my friends back in the States are weathering the, ah, weather and staying dry! News of Hurricane Irene reaches us here, even as another Hurricane tears through the Philippines and Taiwan. Wednesday the 31st is a big event for the Mission: Flag Day! Similar to the one we had for Bethune House, we will be all over Central accepting donations for the Mission. Since permits for Flag Days are only given once every five years, it’s all hands on deck! 8221; and take up our cros...
Living & Serving in Hong Kong: How to say goodbye?
http://servinghongkong.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-to-say-goodbye.html
How to say goodbye? Selamat tinggal Hong Kong! Goodbye, Hong Kong! The last few days have been a whirlwind of farewells and tears and lots of food. I will admit to getting a little misty-eyed when they played the Tennessee Waltz. Who know I would hear my state song so far from home! Can I have an extra stomach please? But I know they practiced hard for the performance. Towards the end they sang Yan Sang, a famous Chinese song about life's sorrows and joys. They encouraged audience participation, ...I've ...
Living & Serving in Hong Kong: Big Changes...
http://servinghongkong.blogspot.com/2012/06/big-changes.html
Well folks, I have been back in the States for about a month, and boy has my life been all over the place! My brother's wedding was beautiful and I am so happy for him and his new bride. Elaine has already felt like a sister for many years (she's been hangin' with the Clarks for over a decade! So it is wonderful to have her as an "official" family member. So what will I be doing between now and next Spring? I am really excited about this great opportunity and I hope that everything transitions smoothly.

Right of Abode for FDW's. I wrote about the Right of Abode issue going to court here in Hong Kong. Today a ruling was handed down. By the High Court. Hopefully this is a sign of progress towards the reconciliation to which we are called. Below is the press release from MFMW. High Court’s ruling on right of abode for FDWs is a positive step for better treatment of migrants. The Hong Kong government should not also use the High Court’s decision to create policies – such as putting a cap on the ...We call f...
Living & Serving in Hong Kong: June 3, 2012 Homily at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Murfreesboro
http://servinghongkong.blogspot.com/2012/06/june-3-2012-homily-at-st-pauls.html
June 3, 2012 Homily at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Murfreesboro. This morning I gave a sermon about my mission in Hong Kong, which I thought I would share for those around the world (and in town) who couldn't be there today. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of our hearts be always acceptable unto you O Lord, our strength and our redeemer. Amen. It is so good to be back here at St. Paul’s! 8217; That’s what I would like to talk about today. So who are these migrant workers? Archbishop Tutu s...

Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori's visit to HK Busy Week! Sunday I served at the 9AM service and got to hear The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, preach the first sermon of the Lenten season. After the service she came up to the Mission for Migrant Workers and I had a few minutes to tell her about our ministry and thank her for her support of mission work and the YASC program. Is the text of her sermon which I hope you will enjoy as much as I did. Around f...
