Football Practice « English13
https://english13.wordpress.com/2014/02/20/football-practice
Anything English – Anything French. Beneath a grumbling grey sky of clotted clouds with no silver linings, stands a wet, puddle-dashed school forecourt. Earlier, childrens’ playtime squeals had enlivened the forcourt. Now it stands empty, the childrens voices have all gone. Dreary weather. Dull, dingy and damp. Billy watches and sups on his can of coke. Let’s go, boys,’ he then shouts, his instruction heard well beyond the distant school gate. Jackson you take green today! Billy watches them go. Great ga...

Anything English – Anything French. The range of hills comes to an end above Martigues as they look down the Etang-de-Berre. This small site at Mourre-du-Bouef was once inhabited around 4-5 millenium B.C. By mesolithic hunter-gatherers or neolithic farmers? 8216; who lived here chose well:. A hillside in today’s town of St. Pierre-les-Martigues was another good site for a settlement, being shaded amoungst trees, and built on rocky slopes. Ramparts fortified the site, dated around the 6th ce...A group of ...
A Love Poem « English13

Anything English – Anything French. I met a girl today;. Or rather our eyes did. And lingered together across a crowded bar. And though not a word was spoken or said,. Our unthought thoughts were easily read. Eyes searched eyes,. Through smoke-filled dim light,. Holding fast their gaze with a passion. And though not a word was said or spoken,. I dared not look away lest the spell be broken. A girl of fields and forests,. She seemed to me,. Of dew-dropped flowers in a meadow. Dark was her hair,. I thank y...

Anything English – Anything French. Festival fun in Provence. I was informed of this, though in not quite so many words, by my friend Hubert Tabutiaux. Hubert has photographed numerous Provence festivals and he exhibits them on his internet blog. This is a perfect visual guide to the region and to the many events taking place there throughout the year. Anyone planning a trip to Provence should consult his site in advance. Hubert’s Photos of Provence. In Latin; ‘. Italian, as in ‘. My current home town in...

Anything English – Anything French. Newer posts →. I was surprised recently when an application form for a prestigious language company asked what specialist areas of business english I had taught. ‘Fair question’, you might say, what’s the problem? Well, the problem is that on the application form there were only four lines on which to enter responses and I have now taught Business English for twelve years. I give some examples:. Facilitators, we should be, absolutely, but I’m not too sure. There are no...

Cliché | Lyonenglishnetwork's Blog
https://lyonenglishnetwork.wordpress.com/2014/03/17/cliche
People, culture, communication, language, TEFL. March 17, 2014. This carries on a little bit from my last post. Because the key is clichés. I was watching a football programme the other day on tv, and the interviewer said “please don’t give us the cliché answer”. It’s exactly like that when you speak a foreign language. You’re supposed to give cliché answers like (to take an extreme example): “oh la la”. And people do. Laquo; An analogy. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

People, culture, communication, language, TEFL. March 11, 2014. I’m working with an online company: linguahouse.com. One of the worksheets they provided is to do with extreme adjectives. This is fantastic for natural vocabulary development. 8211; I am tired. Most of my students at the current point in time can master this. It adds to their vocabulary set to also know: I am exhausted (je suis épuisé(e). I am knackered* (je suis crevé(e) *. 8211; crowded = packed. 8211; good = fantastic, wonderful, amazing.

People, culture, communication, language, TEFL. October 21, 2014. This blog post is about imitating. To what extent do you imitate when you learn a new language? Actually, quite a lot. As shown by this guy from Argentina. Actually, the same guy in one of his videos was talking about how, in Argentina, there was a kind of eye-movement that Argentinians would make. I was playing pétanque with a few French guys the other night. To what extent do you imitate their movements? In this case, not all. Anothe...

People, culture, communication, language, TEFL. March 12, 2014. What does it mean to be fluent? I may have mentioned this before but I think there are a few definitions of fluency. One urban myth concerns dreaming in a foreign language, but some people have said they don’t dream in any language at all – they just dream in pictures. Any other suggestions as to what is fluency?
