Shakespeare: March 2006

http://english432.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 05, 2006. I have decided to compile a list of quotes from plays that we have read thus far( and a couple of sonnets as well) that all have to do with the theme of love or romance since I see it as a common theme in all of the Bard's works. She never told her love, But let concealment, like a worm i'th' bud,Feed on her damask cheek. She pined in thought, And with a green and yellow melancholy She sat like Patience on a monument, Smiling at grief. Was not this love indeed? Posted by BrianDavi...

Shakespeare: orality vs. written text

http://english432.blogspot.com/2006/04/orality-vs-written-text.html

Tuesday, April 25, 2006. Orality vs. written text. In all the wonderful worlds that writing opens, the spoken word still resides and lives. Written texts all have to related somehow, directly or indirectly to the world of sound, the natural habitat of language, to yield their meanings. "Reading a text" means converting it to sound, aloud or in the imagination, syllable-by-syllable in slow reading or sketchily in the rapid reading common to high technology cultures.". http://msuenglish432.blogspot.com/2006/01/shakespearean-insult-generator.html

Sunday, January 22, 2006. This thing rules. Not sure if anyone else posted it yet but everyone should spend several minutes a day with it. Every time you refresh your browser it generates a new funny insult. Press the F5 key to refresh your internet browser and see a new insult! If the F5 key doesn't seem to refresh the page, click on the middle of the page with your mouse to make sure you have the window selected. Then F5 will work. Don't worry, it's clean. (just maybe not for Shakespeare).

MSU English 432: Recognition Moment & Final Paper

http://msuenglish432.blogspot.com/2006/04/recognition-moment-final-paper.html

Sunday, April 23, 2006. Recognition Moment and Final Paper. My own personal recognition scene occurred in the library and it was mythical. I was walking aimlessly throughout the stacks finding books for papers which aim to kill me when I forgot myself. What will I write? How will I deal with my topics? And this Shakespeare paper which is supposed to be so easy because it’s short, it isn’t so easy because it IS short. In this bewildered state I wandered until I found myself surrounded by different color.

http://msuenglish432.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 26, 2006. Conspiracy and Layered Language. In this remarkably short scene, I wondered about why it is in the play when it must take almost as much time to change into this scene and out of it as it does to have the actors act the scene. Pacing, perhaps? In As You Like It Act 4, Scene 2. Read with "roman conquerer" as "italian papist". Read with "horn" as a reference to satan, ie. "horns upon his head" = the devil. Read "tune" in the song as a reference to public outcry. So In Act 4 Scene 3.

A: Magic, Art, Redemption, Recognition. 2) Measure for Measure was described as what type of comedy? A: Dark Comedy(tragedy into comedy). A: it acts to cover it up.
