The paper I've been working on with Stephanie Seifert on model selection in Maxent is now available as a preprint from Ecological Applications. The paper demonstrates that AIC and BIC can be useful in setting regularization, and also acts as the first demonstration of the utility of ENMTools' data simulation functions. While trying to iron out the weirdness of Perl with Mac line endings in .csv files (unsuccessfully), I added some bits of code that seem to have caused the model selection functions in ENMTools to stop working on some input files. Monday, May 11, 2009. I still cannot get COII to amplify/properly sequence for the three individuals I have DNA for in the Sierra population. I get multiple bands and when using gel extraction techniques, do not get clean sequences. Wednesday, September 16, 2009. From Coast to Coast. After checking at a few locations. The habitats were forested swampy areas with white oak, hemlock and ferns as understory. We then headed off to do some muscle scouting. The highlight of this for me was seeing a female display her glochidia. I was able to take an underwater video. And more importantly the only population of caudifera. I found all summer. Here is a map of some of the places I visited. In a larger map. Myself and Fenja Brodo in her home.
