December 11, 2009. Returning back to America after 27 months in Azerbaijan was made much easier by traveling after Peace Corps service. My itinerary, which started in Istanbul and stopped in Vienna two months later, took me from East to West, and at the same time took me from the developing world to the developed one.

My trip to Sofia, Bulgaria included a short day trip to the Rila Monastery. A UNESCO World Hertige Site. I had no idea what to expect when I arrived at this place, but was pleasently surprised when I walked through the gate. I’ve got some photos uploaded here. One of the hardest parts of coming home from the Peace Corps is the identity crisis that comes with re-entry to the United States.
