Human Epigenome Consortium
http://www.epigenome.org/index.php?page=pilotproject
Human Epigenome Pilot Project. The Human Epigenome Consortium is a public/private collaboration that aims to identify and catalogue Methylation Variable Positions (MVPs) in the human genome. As a prelude to the full-scale Human Epigenome Project (HEP), we have recently completed a pilot study of the methylation patterns within the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) - a region of chromosome 6 that is associated with more diseases than any other region in the human genome.

From genes to proteins. Immune system and GI microbiota. Obesity and GI microbiota. Toxins and the Environment. Obesity, cancer and stress. The phenotype of an organism is determined not only by its genotype but is also influenced by the epigenetic status of the inherited DNA. Also called epigenotype. It depends on the chromatin structure and its modifications such as methylation and acetylation. Listen to Professor Professor Randy Jirtle's explanation of Epigenetics. Levels of biological regulation.

Laquo; Back to blog. Correct or Retract Ross et al. Reviews of HER2 as Prognostic in Breast Cancer. Problems with 30 of 107 papers reviewed. Three reviews of HER2 as a prognostic factor in breast cancer have been published by The Oncologist. In the 1998 paper, 10 of the 47 studies were mishandled. Correcting the errors overturned the review's conclusion that HER2 is independently prognostic. The error rate increased in subsequent reviews. The 2003 update added 34 more papers and 10 new errors. Join our mailing list. Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Fun fact: Veggies have more genes than humans do! Let’s take the example of the Solanaceae. Family that includes the tobacco plant, the potato, the pepper, the eggplant and the tomato. They contain more genes than humans do (about 20,000). Family, by contrast, has developed its genetic diversity by adding more genes. They bear 3 copies of their genomes. The two spare copies of each gene were free to change through mutation. Said Jim Giovannoni, a plant gen...

http://yonderbiology.blogspot.com/2013/06/epigenomics.html
Join our mailing list. Friday, June 7, 2013. Epigenomics, is the study of modifications that affect the genome's expression and the associated proteins (such as histones), in a reversible yet sometimes inheritable manner without altering the actual DNA sequence. Epigenetics can also be an important factor in disease regulation, including cancer where the differences in epigenetic modification of DNA repair genes have been linked to various cancer types, even without mutations in those genes. Fun fact: Ve...
