From the Dust Returned: Blood Dancer - Blood Dancer (2013)
http://autothrall.blogspot.com/2013/01/blood-dancer-blood-dancer-2013.html
Friday, January 11, 2013. Blood Dancer - Blood Dancer (2013). It's almost unthinkable that an unsigned band could record an album like the eponymous Blood Dancer. Are clearly providing a pure heavy metal alternative for something like Amon Amarth. Christopher Barclay's voice is a central selling point, a higher pitched, knife edged tone borne of a crystal clarity that will draw some obvious comparisons to Joachim Cans of HammerFall. He's very proficient at maintaining pitch, but thankfully he's also not ...

From the Dust Returned: Scar Symmetry - The Unseen Empire (2011)
http://autothrall.blogspot.com/2011/04/scar-symmetry-unseen-empire-2011.html
Friday, April 15, 2011. Scar Symmetry - The Unseen Empire (2011). Are another of the Swedish bands attempting to bridge the melodic death roots from which they've sprung with the commercially viable aesthetic of clean vocals, futurist lyrics and a progressive, groove metal leaning. Essentially, you take Soilwork. S excellent Natural Born Chaos. And expand upon the ideas there, increasing their latent complexity, and you wind up with something like The Unseen Empire. Or Dark Matter Dimensions. Full-length...

Oodles of Brutals IV: Brutal-Fu, da Return |
https://isolationgrind.wordpress.com/2016/01/26/oodles-of-brutals-iv-brutal-fu-da-return
Very 'eavy, very 'umble since 2009. Oodles of Brutals IV: Brutal-Fu, da Return. Holy shit you guys, I haven’t done one of these brutal/tech/slam death metal roundup features since 2014! Wasn’t this supposed to be a semi-regular feature? I guess 2014 was also the year that I realized I’m far too disorganized/scatterbrained to pull off regular features, so they’re more like whenever-I-feel-like-it features and apparently I haven’t felt like it in almost two years. When it drops later this year. I’m n...

IG’s Top 11 music related things I enjoyed in 2015 |
https://isolationgrind.wordpress.com/2015/12/31/igs-top-11-music-related-things-i-enjoyed-in-2015
Very 'eavy, very 'umble since 2009. IG’s Top 11 music related things I enjoyed in 2015. I had an intro written and ready to go, reflecting on all the good and bad that heavy music in 2015 had to offer (mostly bad), but then I remembered that no one reads these long-winded, pointless intros. So, without further ado, here are eleven musical things (not just albums) that grabbed a hold of my crank and kept on yanking in 2015…. 1 All the shit Revenge put out. Holocaustic Death March to Humanity’s Doom. IR...

Full Metal Attorney: Graveyard Shifters: High Heels and Broken Bones (2015)
http://fullmetalattorney.blogspot.com/2015/07/graveyard-shifters-high-heels-and.html
Thursday, July 02, 2015. Graveyard Shifters: High Heels and Broken Bones. Remember that feeling of pure joy that you felt the first time you heard Kvelertak? Graveyard Shifters give me that same kind of feeling. The songwriting is infectious, and their enthusiasm for the music comes through in the performance. It sounds great, and it's almost impossible not to love. I mean, how can you not love an album with a song called "Beerserker"? Don't miss this one. The Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars.

Full Metal Attorney: Steve Von Till: A Life Unto Itself (2015)
http://fullmetalattorney.blogspot.com/2015/07/steve-von-till-life-unto-itself-2015.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Steve Von Till: A Life Unto Itself. It’s been a while since I’ve talked about any dark Americana music. But a new Steve Von Till isn’t something I could just ignore, is it? Thankfully, other dynamic elements are here to save it from becoming too monotonous. Beautifully morose fiddle and percussion weave into “A Language of Blood,” while elsewhere you can hear synths, piano, and even a few heavy, distorted guitar riffs. Unfortunately, on A Life Unto Itself. Steve Von Till: A Life...

Full Metal Attorney: Skepticism: Ordeal (2015)
http://fullmetalattorney.blogspot.com/2015/07/skepticism-ordeal-2015.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. Updated 7/27 with music clip. Skepticism was one of the first funeral doom bands, and they’re still going strong. If you don’t have the patience for it, move on. But if you’re into it, you’ll definitely want to check out Ordeal. And despite the live recording, it sounds amazing, like they brought the audience into a studio. The only defect here is the occasional cheering, which seems a little too happy for the dense, dark mood they’ve so carefully woven. Bands / Labels / Promoters.

From the Dust Returned: Morbid Angel - Juvenilia (2015)
http://autothrall.blogspot.com/2015/05/morbid-angel-juvenilia-2015.html
Friday, May 8, 2015. Morbid Angel - Juvenilia (2015). One has to wonder: is the title of this retro live album released for Record Store Day 2015 simply a nod to the fact that its date of recording (November 1989) being a moment in Morbid Angel. S formative, 'juvenile' (aka important) history, or is there something potentially backhanded going on as some sort of meta reference to the overwhelmingly negative response to the band's last full length album where they suddenly thought they were Nine Inch Nails.

From the Dust Returned: Six Feet Under - Crypt of the Devil (2015)
http://autothrall.blogspot.com/2015/05/six-feet-under-crypt-of-devil-2015.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. Six Feet Under - Crypt of the Devil (2015). For Chris Barnes and Steve Swanson to 'arm' themselves with a trio of Cannabis Corpse. Members on this 11th (original) studio album turns out not only to have been an interesting ploy, but one that more or less pays off, giving the long mediocre act a fresher sound that complements the veteran vocalist's gruff delivery with some more elaborate and intricate musicianship. That's not to imply that Crypt of the Devil. Crypt of the Devil.
