Gateway to Paraguay: September 2007

http://erininparaguay.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html

Welcome to my blog! 26 September, 2007. Just wanted to let you know that today is the day. I will be flying from Miami to Buenos Aires, Argentina at 8:30pm tonight, arriving at Asuncion, Paraguay at approximately 5:00pm tomorrow (September 27th). I'm scared, excited, overwhelmed and about 20 other feelings right now, but the group I'm with is AMAZING and I think we're all going to be able to really pull each other through! Posted by E Hogeboom. 17 September, 2007. I vow to write as often as possible.

Welcome to my blog! 26 December, 2007. Some people seem to think that compassion is just a passive emotional response instead of rational stimulus to action. To experience genuine compassion is to develop a feeling of closeness to others combined with a sense of responsibility for their welfare."-Dalai Lama. Posted by E Hogeboom. 17 December, 2007. Well, it's done, I am now OFFICIALLY a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay! So now is when the REAL work begins! Cuerpo de Paz #80. Paraguay, South America.

the paraguayan reverie: revisiting the volunteering experience

http://peacecorpspolka.blogspot.com/2011/04/revisiting-volunteering-experience.html

April 6, 2011. Revisiting the volunteering experience. Unbeknownst to me, an entire year has passed since I was last mulling over the ethics of candy bar purchases in the states, and looking forward to another full year here in Paraguay. Little did I know at the time, that one year would merge into two and I would find myself smack in the middle of territory few have chosen to cross into: a fourth year as a Peace Corps volunteer. Design work on the colegio is goin kinda slow, or actually its presently not going. Mostly for lack of time on my part, and the lack of desire to push my days into the evening with material preparation on top of what ive already got floating around on my desk. I cant wait to see you in January! October 28, 2009 at 5:24 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

http://peacecorpspolka.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

January 7, 2009. Time away from paraguay has been a very interesting experience for me. And not just because of the places ive gotten a chance to see, but also because of the perspective ive been able to experience as not only a foreigner on vacation in another country, but as a foreigner from two different countries with a mix of two sets of cultural norms applying them to yet a third place. February 27, 2009. More to come later. February 13, 2009. I completed my first design workshop! Visit my flickr account by clicking on the link to the right. It took alot of planning, and the help of my good buddy hugo (the to-be-director of the high school) to pull it off, but I now have a clear direction to take with the design thanks to the hard work of the teachers and students who participated. It basically took a week of:. Hand delivering the invitations. Writing out instructions for the activities.

The Naming of Things

Today i went to the fabric store. i bought fabric, for secret things (sshhhhh! You can't know until christmas! And, really enjoyed it. On my way back, on the bus from the mission to the "tender nob," as my neighborhood is sometimes so uncomfortably called, i had such a pleasant experience sharing a space with the people who were on the bus. First, as i was waiting for the bus, the man sitting near me said, "man, it's cold isn't it? And he said, "i just wanted to see what kind of personality you were!
