Although we have had much light in the sky for a few weeks now the 21. Is when the sun first peaked above the horizon. It has however been rather windy for the last few days meaning we have not actually SEEN the sun yet…but as soon as the wind dies down and the horizon cleans we should be able to see the beautiful wonderful glorious sun! The winter is over, and I have been on the ice for over a year now and am ready to head home, but I love the South Pole and I was sad to actually get on that plane and leave. It's been a year since I applied to jobs in Antarctica and if you know me, or if you're reading my blog, I didn't go. I was holding my breath through August and September just in case they'd call me last-minute to fly down in October - it's been known to happen - but the call never came. And it was Summer and it was Winter on The Ice. So we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll get an interview? Maybe I'll even get a job?

Tanzania 2011

Saturday, December 24, 2011. After 30 hours of travelling, I have finally made it home. The journey began with two days straight of rain in Dar (the biggest rainfall they have had in 50 years). As a result, many roads were flooded and closed down. I almost had a panic attack waiting for my driver to come pick me up from the airport. After 40 minutes he still had not shown up!
