One of my students doing her experiment with childproof bottles. Scraping the coconut with a tuai. Squeezing the coconut pulp to remove the coconut milk. Pouring the coconut milk into the slghtly-burnt sugar. And then you eat it! Why aren’t there dead moths all over your floor? This is inside our house. Ugh. My front yard in January.

Skip to main content. Skip to primary sidebar. Skip to secondary sidebar. Erin On the Island. Adventures in American Samoa. Larr; Flag Day! Don’t be fooled by their charming faces. 2 out of the 3 children in this photo are trouble. This is our drum. It actually sounds pretty good when they’re banging on the wooden desks. Old cracker tins are good too. You work with what you’ve got when you’re out here. A cool and yet terrible noise. Somehow difficult to turn in a hand. The timing was perfect, though, sin...

Eh Only if you consider the fact that the one student that showed was the one that had trouble with addition and subtraction, so we got to work on that for hours at a time. Our car-chasing dog about to chase the plane. The team from Pago Pago ended up winning. Boo. As usual, we ended up running into loads of people...

My 1-year Teaching Adventure in American Samoa. It’s Never Too Early to Start Thinking About University… →. Robbery on the High Sea. April 1, 2012. Over the past few days, I have been robbed twice. Although I am still reeling from the crimes perpetrated against me, I thought it would be best to use this blog post as a coping mechanism. Although I was able to identify the thief with this photograph, according to the local police, there is nothing that can be done because it's an ocean. After about an hour...

Erin on Life | Finding happiness in life happenings
Finding happiness in life happenings. What’s it all about? 11 Oct 2009: final post. Well, this is it. Goodbye Dublin, goodbye Europe, goodbye lovely accents and currency I can’t convert. Hello America in a few short hours. I’m somewhere over the Atlantic, and struggling to stay awake! I determined that if I stay awake the entire flight, I should sleep well tonight and have minimal jet lag. But, but I just slept for 30 minutes. Oops! But I did my best to follow along. To recap today, but starting with the...

Tanzania 2011
Saturday, December 24, 2011. After 30 hours of travelling, I have finally made it home. The journey began with two days straight of rain in Dar (the biggest rainfall they have had in 50 years). As a result, many roads were flooded and closed down. I almost had a panic attack waiting for my driver to come pick me up from the airport. After 40 minutes he still had not shown up! Especially for Swiss Airline food! We could see our breath walking into the airport! Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Well this is it.

Erin on the move
Monday, September 11, 2017. Baby names aren’t the only form of naming on my mind lately. I have also been thinking about how our experience in the church is limited and enhanced based on the vocabulary we use to talk and think about it, especially vocabulary around women’s responsibilities and work in church administration. In this situation, naming interfered with our young women’s need to have content designed for them, and to see women acting as leaders in the church. Friday, June 2, 2017. But here...

Erin on the Side of Travel. Forget the Side of Caution. My top 10 travel experiences of 2016. December 23, 2016. To me - and to many other people around the world - 2016 was a very polarizing year.
