Coming back home has always been challenging for me, but I'm sure you are all tired of reading my stream of consciousness thoughts by now. And now that I'm home, we can just chat over a beer or a cup of Darjeeling tea! So a recap of lots and lots of pictures it is. See, I'm a great and not scary at all public health professional. See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India...: June 2011

http://www.erinsindiaadventures.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India. Wednesday, 29 June 2011. Another reason doing field research in India is very cool: using my own photos as evidence in our paper. No need to Google pictures of ORS packets in Tamil when I can just snap one in the office! Tuesday, 28 June 2011. So much things to say. Do we have attention spans long enough for that? I might venture to say no. After the morning presentations we enjoyed and awesome lunch on a beautiful patio overlooking the river. So much food!

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India...: There will be an answer

http://www.erinsindiaadventures.blogspot.com/2011/08/there-will-be-answer.html

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India. Tuesday, 9 August 2011. There will be an answer. Sitting on the steps of St Pauls- thinking of Mary Poppins (yes, one of my all time favorite movies). Kites over St Pauls. So Mary Poppins! Millennium Bridge and Tower Bridge. Boris bikes- rent a cycle and return it to any cycle stand. I was so sad I didn't have a helmet, and like a good student of public health, decided not to ride the busy streets without one- I miss riding my bike everywhere!

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India...: Camel Treking

http://www.erinsindiaadventures.blogspot.com/2011/08/camel-treking.html

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India. Monday, 1 August 2011. Much needed shower. Still sort of dirty, though. Camels are prissy things. Notice the nose in the air. Camels are also tall. Like at least six feet tall. Sonia and her camel. Prepared for the trek. Looks like there were a bunch under construction on our desert drive to the treking point. Our guide showed Sonia how to wrap her turban.looks awesome. Fort in the background. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What the classmates say.

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India...: Cheers

http://www.erinsindiaadventures.blogspot.com/2011/08/cheers.html

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India. Saturday, 6 August 2011. The 23 bus- one of the usual routes when studying abroad in London. Hyde Park and the usual London clouds. Audra and me on the Thames. Watching the rugby match at the pub. Loving London, as always. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What the classmates say. Leslie's Adventures in Botswana. Tamil's Similar to Spanish, Right? View my complete profile. And so it begins.again. There will be an answer.

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India...: May 2011

http://www.erinsindiaadventures.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

See, Hear, Taste, Think: goings on in India. Tuesday, 31 May 2011. Tamil lessons, etc. My tummy feels much better after some dairy. We enjoyed the night rickshaw ride back to the hostel. The night ride brought out a different, even more vibrant feel to Chennai. Sheets. I wanted to get a bed sheet for the train ride tonight. We are going to be in the sleeper car in bunks. I've heard snippets here and there about how cockroaches make for strange bedfellows; it's not uncommon to have them nest i...Anywho, t...

Mmm... India: 2011-07-17

http://indiamph.blogspot.com/2011_07_17_archive.html

Friday, July 22, 2011. Great news: yesterday was our final presentation (though, we're still working on the final final paper to be submitted in T-8 hours). Even better news: all of the TPS ladies were relatively wardrobe malfunction free. Why is this important? After several early-morning YouTube videos and a whole bunch of horribly-wrong attempts, Audra and I (sort of) mastered the art of putting on the sari! Me with the arm candy of our trip, Josh and Shawn. Gift from Ravi and Ramesh! After the presen...

Mmm... India: Beach views and lime juice. Good day.

http://indiamph.blogspot.com/2011/07/beach-views-and-lime-juice-good-day.html

Friday, July 15, 2011. Beach views and lime juice. Good day. As I'm trying to spend a good chunk of the day working on our paper that's due Monday, I thought I'd just throw up a few pictures of the views in Alleppey at the homestay we're at. After departing from the houseboat after a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and fresh fruit, our driver brought us to check out the Arabian Sea before we could check in at our next place. Pathway along the sea coast through the neighborhood.

Friday, June 10, 2011. On the road again! Despite the crazy ridiculous commute, 10 of us TPSers (that stands for Transdisciplinary Problem Solving, i.e., the beginning of our class title) have somehow safely arrived in Pondicherry. Let me explain why I've used the word "somehow":. Anyway, all was officially right in the world again! Alright - back to today/tonight's festivities! Will post pictures/stories soon! Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Blessings from an elephant! Well folks, that's all for tonight. I s...

Mmm... India: Banana leaves, rotini, and elephant snot

http://indiamph.blogspot.com/2011/07/banana-leaves-rotini-and-elephant-snot.html

Thursday, July 14, 2011. Banana leaves, rotini, and elephant snot. Apparently I forgot to click publish when I wrote this. Oops. It's a few days old]. I know it's been a few days since my last post, but since I've mostly been working on our final project and sleeping, I wanted to spare you the boring details of my recent days in Thanjavur! When we finally made it to Hotel Victoria, Sonia and I relished in dosas and chutneys for breakfast, each of which were served on a banana leaf!

Friday, July 1, 2011. Views from the top of the world! Kodaikanal is FANTASTIC. Not only do they have horses roaming the streets, but there's a Baskin Robbins and hot showers! We've been staying at a wonderful place called Dalethorpe Homestay, described on the website as an English bungalow built in the 1930s. The grounds are beautiful, with a very well-tended garden. Kind of a weird view, but I was just trying to snap a picture of the yellow lady bug. Thursday, June 30, 2011. Hello faithful readers,.

Mmm... India: Checking in from a houseboat in Kerala!

http://indiamph.blogspot.com/2011/07/checking-in-from-houseboat-in-kerala.html

Thursday, July 14, 2011. Checking in from a houseboat in Kerala! First and foremost, I would like to say that everyone in the TPS course is accounted for. In case you hadn't heard, three bombings occurred in the city of Mumbai (Bombay), resulting in the deaths of 18 persons and injuries to more than 100. Luckily, none of my classmates or friends from ICTPH were visiting the city. Our driver took a detour to show us his friends' house where they make doormats out of coconut leaves! View from the houseboat!

Mmm... India: Can you say 'Party Pants'?!

http://indiamph.blogspot.com/2011/07/can-you-say-party-pants.html

Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Can you say 'Party Pants'? The long-awaited moment has finally arrived. I've decided to give in to peer pressure from the States and post some party pants pictures. But first, some background. After our professors, Ramesh and Ravi, and the ICTPH staff arrived, we decided that despite the ominous, lightning-filled sky, celebrating the Fourth of July was well worth the risk of rooftop fireworks. Our fireworks display drew spectators from nearby buildings! July 6, 2011 at 12:07 PM.

Saturday, May 28, 2011. The silent, methodical movement of these workers just stands out to me because of their drastic contrast to the hectic, noisy lifestyle of the city's street life. Speaking of street life, I experienced my first auto rickshaw ride today and it was incredible. Some of my friends took some videos of our experiences this morning and I'm hoping they'll post them online so you can really experience it! That's a rickshaw in front of our hostel. Alright, I'm cutting out - it's dinner time.

Panchayat's hubby gathering some tank water for us! Suda, Steph, Erin R., and myself. Just a typical Ambalapattu tap. Celebrating Mukesh's last night in Thanjavur by having dinner at Claypot! Monday, December 31, 2007. The morning after I arrived home, I took a shower at my mom’s house and suddenly realized that I could relax my jaw. And I opened my mouth and took a big gulp of beautiful, clean water. After a week at home, I still experience a moment of hesitation before brushing my teeth. "Where’s my water bottle?
