I got hooked on photography the day I got my Kodak Instamatic with the big blue flashcubes. I captured friends, family, kittens, cars, mailmen, lawnmowers anything that passed by my suburban Chicago street. Since I was just 7, and a little shy about asking anyone to pose, spontaneity became my style. Over the years I’ve accumulated a virtual Container Store full of joyful, unguarded moments. It’s one thing to feed kids, dress kids and burp kids. It’s quite another to take pictures of kids. But, for reasons known only to children, I’ve always been able to capture those sweet, mischievous moments that only occur during childhood. Of course, I’m pretty good with adults too there are great pictures inside everyone waiting to get out. Great shots may require more than just saying,. Act naturally. But when my subjects let their guard. Down in front of the camera, it’s as if they’re lit from within.

Places, like people, have personalities although they don’t respond quite. As well to the use of humor and petty bribery. The images here are. From recent trips to Africa and Japan, and from my frequent backyard photographic safaris. I like to present each scene naturally, without gimmicks or artifice I believe the place should always take precedence over the technique.

I like a Hawaiian sunset as much as the next photographer . The world is not in desperate need of another image of the sun dropping into the Pacific. I look for odd juxtapositions of objects, well-worn faces, people behaving badly, and slightly skewed expressions of character. Here are some examples.
