Leaf Slayer's Blog: March 2009
http://randobooks.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Cycling, randonneuring, armchair cyclotouring. Monday, March 30, 2009. Originally uploaded by Leaf Slayer. As I wound up Pedesen I came across a property that was home to quite a few peacocks. Of course they started making a racket as I rode by. A little further up the road there was a gaggle of geese who began to hiss at me. To tell you the truth, they looked pretty menacing and I expected them to rush me. Fortunately they let me pass with only a warning. All in all it was a pretty fun ride. I got out o...

Cycling, randonneuring, armchair cyclotouring. Sunday, March 29, 2009. I awoke at 4:50am, 10 minutes before the alarm would go off and would soon be off to do the Birkie 200k. I got out of bed to make coffee, eat and get ready. Beth would not have to get up for another hour at which time she'd be driving me to the start in Forest Grove. This is the Oregon Randonnuer's. 160;was in the group too. Together. I continued to yo-yo back and forth with him and a couple of different people along Timber Rd....

Cycler's Life: October 2005
http://cyclerslife.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
A bicycle rider's view of life. Tuesday, October 11, 2005. A Ride up Lolo Pass. We all have heroes. Heroes do things that we thought were impossible. They achieve these feats usually not because of unusual talent, but instead because of unusual courage or tenacity. My heroes are inspirational cyclers- especially, randonneurs. Randonneuring is a French tradition of self-supported riding, epitomized in my mind by rider's like Kent P. (over in the links column). I decided this spot might do me some good, to...

Cycling Llama: Century ride
http://buckybikes.blogspot.com/2008/05/century-ride.html
Musings and Tinkerings with Bikes. Thursday, May 1, 2008. Last Sunday I joined Dan and Jim for most of Dan's proposed 200k ride. We continued along until the first stop at about 40ish miles at a sheetz. This was welcome for me, I was starting to get a bit of toe numbness and I just really needed to walk around for a minute or two. I was also starting to feel that I was pushing a bit too hard on the hills and my knees were starting to complain a little. Total distance: 111 miles. I found it really interes...

Cycling Llama: Wheel Building
http://buckybikes.blogspot.com/2008/04/wheel-building.html
Musings and Tinkerings with Bikes. Wednesday, April 9, 2008. Once I was happy with the dish, I did a rough truing then stress relieved the spokes by grabbing parallel pairs and squeezing as hard as I could all the way around the wheel a few times. Then I did a finish truing. I put a dial gauge on it, and I'm good within about 0.3mm. Good enough. Lastly I put the new cassette on. It's an 8 sp SRAM 11-28. All told it took a couple hours working at a relaxed pace and explaining to my 7yo what I was doing.

Cycling Llama: February 2008
http://buckybikes.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Musings and Tinkerings with Bikes. Thursday, February 28, 2008. The bike is done with the exception of a couple minor things (hand grips, toeing in the front brake pads, and making a little cap for the top of the steerer extension to be specific). Monday, February 25, 2008. To actually provide the heat source I'm using some stage lights that my dad stores in my garage when he's not using them. seems to work pretty well. Sunday, February 24, 2008. Thursday, February 21, 2008. Ok, so a lot more progress si...

Cycling Llama: Seat Building, Finished!
http://buckybikes.blogspot.com/2008/04/seat-building-finished.html
Musings and Tinkerings with Bikes. Monday, April 14, 2008. Seat Building, Finished! Ok, picking up from where I left off. Once I had the reinforcement on the ribs complete, I needed to put on the final back layer. For this I ordered some knitted fiberglass. I noticed that the knitted glass wasn't totally laminated in two spots on the inside of the rails. What I should. Have done was drill some small holes and inject epoxy to fill the space. What I actually did. Later that day I added the rivets to the no...
