Monday, February 25, 2008. Chicago Over Winter Break. Joe and Ned Self Portrait. We took a quick trip to Chicago this past weekend to visit Matt and Sharon and watch the Oscars. While there we visited the Chicago Botanical Garden. And stomped around in the snow. There is quite a lot to see even in the winter. The Japanese Garden was a highlight with the arched bridge leading to the first island and the different lanterns along the trails. Afterwards we stopped a Homer's Ice Cream. Summer Road Trip 2008.

Our first stop of the day was the Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth, MN. He stands 55 feet tall and was created in 1978 to mark the completion of I-90. Sunday, August 3, 2008. Devils Tower to Rocky Faces. Devils Tower Early in the Morning. We were there by 6:30 am. We had a quick breakfast and then hiked the trail around the base of Devils Tower. It was very quiet on the trail and the boys enjoyed clambering on the boulders strewn about the base. We watched climbers making their way to the top. Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Mountians, Alpine Tundras, Lakes and Waterfalls. Joe and Ned on a Rocky Mountain High. We had a long full day today. We started off the morning with a talk on the park's bighorn sheep. We learned about how their horns grow and why they come down from the mountains to places like Sheep Lake (it is the minerals in the mud.) After the talk we had an early lunch at the Endovalley Picnic area next to the Fall River before heading up the Old Fall River Road. Hiking to Chasm Falls.
