Baseball Esoterica: August 2005
http://baseballesoterica.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
August 29, 2005. On August 16, Boston and Detroit combined for the highest scoring tenth inning in at least 35 years, and the highest scoring extra inning outburst in a losing cause in more than 25! Tied 3-3 after nine, the Red Sox scored seven in the top of the tenth, and the Tigers answered back with four in the bottom (a grand slam, no less), making the final score an incredible 10-7. No home team has scored more than four runs in an extra inning and lose since June 30, 1979. But Wait, There's More!

Baseball Esoterica: November 2005
http://baseballesoterica.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
November 21, 2005. So what's the most alternating wins and losses? The most is 16, done twice since 1960. It was first done by the Phillies. Between June 3 and June 20, 1974. The ironic part is that after the "anti-streak", they went 20 games without a "one-game streak" (and nine games before it, as well! Then the Dodgers did it, though it took them.two and a half months. Huh? Well, they happened to begin their streak on June 6, 1981. Posted by Eric at 2:16 PM. November 18, 2005. November 11, 2005. Yes, ...

Baseball Esoterica: October 2005
http://baseballesoterica.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
October 27, 2005. 2,500 Games Later. It's Another Sox! Some game and series esoterica:. Chicago surpassed Houston in every major offensive stat in the series.except walks! That's pretty weird, because. As mentioned in my last post, the Chicago pitching staff has been extremely frugal with free passes, yielding a mere 13 in their first 10 playoff games, up to WS Game 2. So how unbelievable is it that in their 11th they set the record for most walks in a World Series game, giving up 12? After a season of no...

Baseball Esoterica: September 2005
http://baseballesoterica.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
September 30, 2005. In a span of a month, Washington was involved in four crazy, almost spookily similar games. They couldn't solve Pedro Martinez. Meanwhile, the Mets built an 8-0 lead. As soon Pedro left after six, though, the Nats mounted a dramatic comeback to tie the game and take to extras. They promptly lost in the 10th. Sigh. Then, 12 days later. They then promptly lost in the 10th. Choke! Fast forward 10 more days. Six days later, they tried a variation on the theme. Now you know the Nats must b...

Baseball Esoterica: April 2006
http://baseballesoterica.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
April 21, 2006. Sorry I haven't been posting.just got a new job. I remember a couple of years ago when Kaz Matsui homered in his MLB first plate appearance, that was pretty cool. Then, last year, when he did it again, that was really cool. So I was looking forward to his return to the Mets lineup. First time up tonight? Not out of the park.but he circles the bases for an inside-the-parker! Posted by Eric at 12:36 AM. April 03, 2006. What's So Special About Opening Day? Happy Opening Day, aka, Christmas!
