Wednesday, May 09, 2007. That's progress. . . On Wednesday, May 09, 2007 at 11:49 AM. Friday, April 13, 2007. Friday the Thirteenth - A Black Cat 'n All That. Funny how a little alarm goes off when these super-silly-stitious things come about. Even though I know it has nothing to do with anything, I still get a creepy case of the better watch it Bub syndrome until it's safely Saturday the fourteenth. Of course the big equalizer is that some adults actually believe it themselves. Wednesday, April 04, 2007.

Miscellaneous memories and musings. Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Curtis is determined for us to still go for our cottage getaway, although we may not bother with the boat, since I am not very ambulatory. We can fish off the dock. I spend almost no time at the computer, and have worn out my backspace key, making corrections as I type this. So if you email me, don't expect an immediate response. Miscellaneous memories and musings. Thursday, July 10, 2003. I've had a few bad days in my time, but this one episode in my life ranks way up there. So we made the best of things - what else could we do? My brother Laurens expressed amazement at how cheerfully I accepted all of these events. How could I explain to him that when you've survived a high-speed rollover on the highway, a soggy carpet and a broken fingertip are small potatoes? And that was several years before cancer nearly killed me. Ps In or...

Miscellaneous memories and musings. Monday, May 31, 2004. I lost a great deal over the next few years: the cottage that we had built, furnished and decorated from the ground up (it was to be our retirement home in the future that would never be), my dad, my beloved chow chow, many friends, a pile of money, and a kidney. Doors close, windows open. Posted by ellen @ 9:17 AM. Sunday, May 30, 2004. We got home and realized that we'd forgotten to buy a package of ceiling tile. And after wrestling with the...

Miscellaneous memories and musings. Monday, September 27, 2004. But I did improve, and it did wonders for my ringette game. By the end of the first season, I had scored my first hat trick, and was voted the most improved player by my teammates. More importantly, I learned from the beginners skating class that you are never too old to learn a new skill. Posted by ellen @ 11:08 AM. Thursday, September 23, 2004. Miscellaneous memories and musings. Thursday, July 29, 2004. Coyles' Hardware is now Sawadthee Thai, one of the finest Thai restaurants in the city. And the pharmacy where my brother was once employed, is a Thai grocery store. Across the street is the same Goodwill thrift store that has flourished for 50 years, and catty corner, where Bill's and Henry's candy stores used to be (any of you remember three for a penny candy? I do; that's how old I am), are a video store and computer repair shop. I think I m...

Miscellaneous memories and musings. Friday, January 30, 2004. I haven't had much time for recreation since Christmas Break, but I have visited a few strangers' blogs inbetwixt and inbetween. I witnessed malicious warfare in comments boxes that made my eyes smart. Man, and I thought I had come under attack. Makes me appreciate even more the refuge I have taken in obscurity. I am wayyyyy too easily stung to endure a verbal assault of that proportion. Ps Some day soon, I'll spin a little yarn. No sooner did...

Miscellaneous memories and musings. Thursday, June 28, 2007. Here I am, with the most unforgettable gift I've ever gotten. If you go to Kathy's crane project blog ( http:/ craneproject.blogspot.com/. How can I ever thank you enough, my friends? I was impressed with how painstakingly Kathy had strung the cranes, each with a bead between them. With each blog name I came across, my emotions overcame me more. Posted by ellen @ 8:53 PM. Wednesday, June 27, 2007. A Thousand Cranes, A Million Thanks. As it dawn...

Miscellaneous memories and musings. Wednesday, October 15, 2003. The Tonsillectomy That Brought Me Joy. According to several of my students, in order to persuade a doctor to finally schedule your tonsillectomy these days, you have to be deathly ill with tonsillitis, somethin like 19 times in one year. How stupid is that? Heck, when I was a kid, if you coughed once, they yanked the suckers out. I realize that's not ideal, but isn't there some kind of happy medium here, folks?
