Monday, April 18, 2011. Blog 11: Rhetoric in Movement. As a verb: we do rhetoric. Rather than (just) finding ourselves in a rhetoric. Pg 13, para.1).”. I like how Edbauer compared rhetoric to evolution, because I believe rhetoric has evolved throughout the centuries, from Aristotle to the writers and philosophers of today. Just. Like specfic species evolved in particular ways, the evolution of rhetoric has evolved in different contexts. Street. Again, rhetoric in movement. After reading about the differe...

Pathos: Blog 10: The Economy of Emotions
http://pathosdmj.blogspot.com/2011/04/blog-10-economy-of-emotions.html
Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Blog 10: The Economy of Emotions. I like how Ahmed takes an approach to emotions that is different from our other readings. While she does talk about the transfer of emotions from body to body, she explains that these transfers are “economic” and don’t reside in the subject or object. Pg123 para.1).” I thought this concept was interesting because it sort of ties into Aristotle’s thought about hate. It seems that Aristotle and Ahmed are on the same page. I think learning about e...

Sk's Pathos Blog: Ahmed - Affective Economies
http://skpathos.blogspot.com/2011/04/ahmed-affective-economies.html
Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Ahmed - Affective Economies. The emotion of hate works to animate the ordinary subject, to bring fantasy to life, precisely by constituting the ordinary as in crisis, and the ordinary person as the real victim" (118). Ahmed introduces an interesting challenge to the conventional view of emotions. She is expressing that emotions are not things we possess, that we are. How then can we control them? On a separate note entirely, her comparison with Marx made this whole thing make mor...

Thursday, April 14, 2011. The main focus of my project will be combining Kennedy's thoughts on expectation, with Massumi's exploration of the three versions of the same snowman story. The question I will be answering is: how does the knowledge collected from that investigation help a rhetor fully engage his audience on all levels, to be the most affective and effective that they can be. Sk's Pathos Blog: Visual Argument
http://skpathos.blogspot.com/2011/03/visual-argument.html
Thursday, March 31, 2011. I constructed my Prezi presentation over the grave effects cancer can have on young children, and the difference someone can make in their lives. My claim, put very simply, is that donations to any cancer research funds can save the lives of children; without it, more children will die. The third image is of a child who is being attended to by a nurse. He is again bald to make the presence of cancer obvious, and this shows how much these children are put through. It is i...Http:...

Pathos: Final Project Rough Draft
http://pathosdmj.blogspot.com/2011/04/final-project-rough-draft.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. Final Project Rough Draft. Please Don’t Stop the Music. Have you ever met someone who didn’t like music? Of course we all have our favorite types, but music, overall, has a universal appeal. Even if someone doesn’t like a specific genre or song, they can still be affected by the music. I, for instance, am not a fan of Miley Cyrus’s music. But as soon as I hear Party in the U.S.A. I find my foot and body bopping to the music. Why does music have this intense effect on us? Walker ...

Pathos Spring '11: Bitzer on the Rhetorical Situation
http://tmitch15.blogspot.com/2011/04/bitzer-on-rhetorical-situation.html
Sunday, April 24, 2011. Bitzer on the Rhetorical Situation. Lloyd Bitzer defines rhetoric and explains what exactly the rhetorical situation consists of in his article, The Rhetorical Situation. He says that rhetoric is a context of persons, events, objects, and relations with an exigence which strongly invites an utterance. This means to me that rhetoric is everywhere in everything because there is a situation in everything everywhere that could gather a response. April 30, 2011 at 5:41 PM. I agree with...

Pathos Spring '11: Nussbaum and Emotions
http://tmitch15.blogspot.com/2011/04/nussbaum-and-emotions.html
Sunday, April 3, 2011. In the Nussbaum article we read for class, she makes certain claims that I believe are true, but like everything in life, there's an exception. Nussbaum claims,. Which means that a person cannot separate their emotions from their rational. The two are connected. She illustrates this claim through an example of anger. If one is mad it is based upon the belief that someone else has wronged them in some way. It is not an uncommon event that I wake up in the morning in a pissy mood.
