Seeking Grace: The Circle of Life
http://barbaraeb.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-circle-of-life.html
Saturday, August 1, 2015. The Circle of Life. My" tree had died. And as silly and irrational as it may sound, I found myself crying, sobbing over this friend whom I hadn't visited in years who had died. "Is nothing the same? Will be the same when you return, and that means what you see and experience and feel will also be different. But as I stood there with my 15 year old daughter, who is now old enough to hike these hills with me and who just wasn't when we left, we also saw this:. Sundays Sermon - the...

Seeking Grace: Sermon #2 at CVPC - Evil Talk
http://barbaraeb.blogspot.com/2015/08/sermon-2-at-cvpc-evil-talk.html
Monday, August 10, 2015. Sermon #2 at CVPC - Evil Talk. But how do we do this? And if they don’t listen, we bring in a second person to listen. While we again talk to the person directly. The other person we bring is simply a witness, not an active participant in the conversation. Neither of these things are easy. She was telling me about a parishioner who is a real challenge. This is someone who has no sense of personal boundaries, and who steps into personal space on a regular basis. By failing to conf...

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Thursday, July 16, 2015. There is more, too, that I will miss about Ohio. I have treasured the slower pace, the friendly openness, the "live and let live" lack of judgmental-ness, the fact that people here are slower to become enraged (especially true in their cars! I have been blessed by my time here. And I will carry the lessons I've learned, the friends I've made, and the experiences we've had close to my heart, no matter where I go. Seeking Grace: May 2015
http://barbaraeb.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Sunday's sermon - Love and Outreach. Acts 1:15-17, 21-26, John 17:6-19. What stops us from inviting people to church? One reason people don’t invite others to church is that we aren’t excited about church. We don’t want it to change, but at the same time, we don’t find it interesting enough to invite others to come. Does it feel too personal to share? Again, that is not what Jesus encourages. Jesus encourages a faith that is communal as well as personal. Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

Seeking Grace: December 2014
http://barbaraeb.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Sunday's Sermon - For My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation. Isaiah 61:10 - 62:3, Luke 2:22-40. What has been your life calling? Do you know what you are being called to do in your life? 8221; Yeah. Thanks, God. I don’t judge that anymore. What are your life lessons? They usually are not things that come easily, but they are deep calls to us to be the best and most whole we can be, for God, for others and for ourselves. Why haven’t I been able to die? Has God forgotten me? 8221; ...

Seeking Grace: January 2015

Thursday, January 15, 2015. Wednesday's Sermon - healing. It remains a challenge for me to "post" my Wednesday sermons because I only use an outline and it is much more interactive sermon that Sunday mornings. But since it was requested that I try to post this, I'm doing my best to recreate what I said last night:. What things did Jesus do in his ministry? Teaching, preaching and healing. Anything else? Do you think it was to get people’s attention so that they would pay attention to him? No, I tell you!

Sunday, July 6, 2014. Today's Sermon - Much to Complain about. Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-67. Jesus also compares his generation to what? Do we do this? The truth is, we are often guilty of seeing what we know rather than knowing what we see. We often are. And when fear is involved, it is even harder to actually see the blessings God surrounds us with. Can this really get any harder? 8221; “No,” David called back, “God will save me.”. The water continued rising and began to flood his home. He was fo...

Seeking Grace: November 2014
http://barbaraeb.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Sunday's Sermon - Christ the King. Ezek 34:11-16, 20-24. They didn’t want God for a King. And yet today we celebrate that God, that Christ is and will be our king. Still, I wonder what we actually mean by that when we say it? What do we envision when we think of Christ returning as king? Do we continue to envision the kind of king we think of when we think of earthly kings? I believe many Christians do, at some level at least. When you think of Jesus, what do you think of?
