Ethershop, Fall 2010. Notes From the Divided Country by Suji Kwock Kim. In the concluding lines of “Montage with Neon, Bok Choi, Gasoline, Lovers and Strangers,” poet Suji Kwock Kim directly presents the irresolvable internal conflict between memory and identity that underlies much of the poetry in her 2003 collection. Notes from the Divided Country:. 8220;may you never see what we saw/ may you never do what we’ve done/ may you never remember and may you never forget.”. This was written by Ryan Marr.

Ethershop, Fall 2010. Fancy Beasts by Alex Lemon. Opening up Alex Lemon’s collection. Lemon also experiments frequently with the page alignment and spacing of his poems, as well as the use of titles, even going so far as to give no clear title to thirteen pages of his work, and he labels it only with “! 8221; at the beginning of the section. At first, the lack of a similar structure throughout the entire text frustrated me, but as I read it through again, my favorite part about reading Lemon’s book.

Ethershop, Fall 2010. 8220;The Curator of Silence” by Jude Nutter. Throughout the rest of the book we see her touch on loneliness, death, and even abonnement. I was worried it wouldn’t evoke any positive feelings at all, but the skill Nutter has in her craft of poetry, made what she wrote challenging and authentic, and full of energy and beauty. All their teachers were female, which is expected. I only had one male teacher in elementary school. Teaching in grade school is predominantly male-dominated. The thing that interested me most about today was the subject of objectification! I hate the video. It disturbs me. I asked why? This was written by kacisutton.

8220;Winter Field” by Ellen Bryant Voigt. November 7th, 2006. 8220;The winter field is not. The field of summer lost in snow; it is. Another thing, a different thing. 8220;We shouted, we shook you,” you tell me,. But there was no sound, no face, no fear, only. Oblivion–why shouldn’t it be so? After they’d pierced a vien and fished me up,. After they’d reeled me back they packed me under. Blanket on top of blanket, I trembled so. The summer field, sun-fed, mutable,. Has its many tasks; the winter field.

Ethershop Fall 2007 › Writing Workshop

Spacing Out (Revision 1). Monday, October 29, 2007. I lie on my back in the cool crisp grass. One summer night and I stare into the deep blue-black. That smears itself out before me, mottled here and there. My mind begins to wander,. Drifts away from consciousness and passes into a dreamlike trance. As I stare they begin to change shape, from stale white circles. Into all means of other things. One enlarges and bloats and becomes a strange craft. In attempt to destroy its foe. Until there’s nothing left.

Audre Lorde’s The Black Unicorn addresses major themes of race, gender, sexuality, and politics. Her honest and compelling poems are often heartbreaking and speak strongly against racism and sexism in America. Much of her work incorporates African spiritual imagery and allusion which emphasize her sense of cultural and ethnic pride. It speaks against prejudice and stands for all of those who st...

A long, complex poem, it is thick with allusions to other works, and even had large portions written in other languages, such as Hindi. It is heavily referenced in many contemporary works, and has been said to have had more influence on the works of literature of the 20. Century than any other single work. From Ritual to Romance,. It wouldn’t do this collection justice if I didn’t talk about the range of styles Williams used in his book. While some of the poems are broken into traditional stanzas, many of his poems take the form of prose, and others yet seem to be just lone sentences on the page. For example, in his poem.
