Monday, December 31, 2012. Use of Contingent Workers. A firm, during the recession, laid off most of its staff and hired many of its former employees as contingent workers, having them work hourly on projects without paying benefits, providing office space, or having any long-term commitment to them. While that gave these workers the freedom to work on their own projects, it also increased their employment insecurity. Monday, December 31, 2012. Sunday, November 4, 2012. An Introduction to Ethics. Ethics For Architects: February 2012

http://ethicsforarchitects.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 25, 2012. Ethics in Architecture Education. I wrote the following as introductory comments as part of a panel discussion at the ACSA Annual Meeting in Boston, March 1-3, 2012, among a few of the authors in Architecture School,. Edited by Joan Ockman and Rebecca Williamson (MIT Press, 2012). Century coincided with an effort, led by the critic Oscar Wilde, to separate the realm of aesthetics from that of ethics. We see that separation in the formalism and aestheticism of 19. A heavily ed...

Ethics For Architects: June 2012

http://ethicsforarchitects.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 10, 2012. When There Is No More Fee. An architectural firm designed a project according to program and budget of an institutional client. The client, though, had a hard time raising all of the funds needed for the project and so asked the firm either to redesign the project to reduce its size or help fundraise for the project to reach the original budget, all without any extra fee to cover the time involved. Ethics For Architects: October 2011

http://ethicsforarchitects.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 23, 2011. A firm moved an architect off a project because of tensions he had created with other members of the team. A colleague in the office then sent e-mails to others in the office protesting his move and urging others to do the same. Her e-mails not only got back to the partners in the firm, but to clients and consultants, embarrassing all involved. Probably not, unless she didn’t care whether or not she kept her job. Temperance becomes more difficult the more intemperate others have...

Ethics For Architects: Property Wrongs

http://ethicsforarchitects.blogspot.com/2012/04/property-wrongs.html

Saturday, April 28, 2012. A glass-roofed museum, with a roof-top sunscreen that blocks out all but the even northern light into the galleries, had a condominium tower built to its north with reflective glass that bounced light directly into the galleries, threatening to damage the artwork within. The museum wants the developer to alter the exterior of the tower to prevent the reflections, while the developer claims he has city approval to complete the tower as designed. Ethics for Adversaries | how to play fair when you're playing to win

How to play fair when you're playing to win. What will Trump play while America burns? October 17, 2016. That an entire election will be rigged and stolen? Not even that it. Fraudulently won, but that it. Donald Trump’s latest, and arguably most concerning, comments regarding the upcoming presidential election have thrown many reasonable citizens into whirlwinds of confusion, anxiety, and outright fear. (If somehow you haven’t yet heard about any of this, this. Sometimes sports fans burn cars or business...
